I'm looking at cam specs for my 402 BB.I want something to give it more pep.But I'm confused about the specs of lobe seperation. From 110degrees to 115 degrees??? I've been looking at something with a .515to .525" lift and about .220 duration.What does the lobe separation have to do with the performance of the cam??? I'll be useing it a 72 motor with a manifold (edel.perf.),a spreadbore holley 650,Headers,and an auto
tranny with .342 gears

The larger the lobe separation, the broader the torque range. The tighter the lobe separation, you have a narrower torque range, but it is much more of a spike. Hope this helps, Don http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

More lobe separation will help maintain cylinder pressure in lower compression ratio engines and help raise intake manifold vacuum for things like power brakes and carb signal at idle. A good thing for street engines with longer duration cams. von
