I have a set of somewhat fresh 781's however they are stock size valves. 2.065/1.72. Should I replace the valves with the 2.19/1.88 or install a set of comps Promag rockers since I only have stock type rockers?

If your rockers are working with your cam now I would vote for the bigger valves if the ports will support the extra flow.

Have yet to fire it up. I can bolt the heads up tomorrow but unsure as of yet. Ive heard alot of people punching the pushrods through the rockers.
Could keep the $400 in my pocket too and run it as is, but how much will I be leaving on the table is the real question.
just a bit confused

Big small block valves stock are 2.02. You have allot more eng to feed if the spring pressures are not higher than stock 427 and oil flow has not been restricted they should live until you can get better rockers. Hopefully Bill, Mike or one of the other builders can chime in here

First off, don't bother spending money on roller rockers. No measurable or "ass dyno" HP increase to be found there. My mid 12 second mild big block runs stock rockers.
Now the bigger valves are worth talking about.I picked up 3 tenths and 2.5MPH in the 1/4 mile swapping over to the 2.19/1.88 valves.Doesn't sounds like much, but IMHO it was well worth it and it was plenty performance increase for me.
Or you could it run it as is and just save the $400
You might be needing tires soon :D

roller rockers might not gain much power, but they do lower oil temps and prolong valve guide life.
altho, if i had $400, i'd probably get 5 tanks of gas..
