my friend has a 1979 chevy malibu and had to remove the ignition switch,after puting back together,we lost some power somewhere..we still had headlights,dashlights,and the instrument warning lights but it would not turn over...nothing, no click,,,no sound...

Sounds like you might need to adjust the ignition switch on the column.
Loosen the two mounting screws and slide the switch (I think) toward the steering wheel.
