I finally seem to have all my problems ironed out and have the ole girl running great. I now have a B&M torquemaster 1900-2100 convertor. I can brake stall it to about 2000 and it will start to smoke the tires. From a dead stop if I floor it off idle it will not spin the tires. Is the convertor a factor in this? Would a better quality convertor work different?
Engine is a 350, UD f.t.hyd 221/221 @.05, vortec heads, holley 650dp, rpm airgap, 350th and 3.73 gears.I am not overly concerned about spinning tires from a stop but am curious if this convertor is working alright
Thanks

Yea that is about normal for a tight converter.
You can often overpower the breaks when doing a burnout.Once you try leaving the line it may be a different story depending on how well the suspension is working and weight distribution.
Also having a converter that is too tight for the cam will mean a decrease in 60ft performance.
My old 11inch TCI Breakaway (behind a 350 with a .221 at .050 cam) would start to smoke the tires at about 2200 if I held the breaks tight.
If I was at a stop and hammerd the gas in low it would flash to about 2400.
That converter is too tight for optimum performance. But if performance is not what you are after it should be fine.
The converter is a little tight to get the engine up to the rpm range where the cams powerband starts to really come on and make tons "O" torque.
If you want more torque from a dead stop withought changing the engines components a smaller diameter, higher rated stall speed converter is what you need, or a gear change.
Or simply work on getting the last little bit of performance out of it with ignition and carb tuning.
Just ask how to set up your distributor or carb and you will have a bunch of replies.
I'd opt for a smaller converter since I have had a .221 cam with a 350 and a tight converter.
A tightly built 10inch 2800-3200 rpm flash would probably work well for you and provide a :D factor.
P.S-
Damn I like the way your car looks.
Great color for that car graemlins/thumbsup.gif
