When I stripped down my spare set of 67 buckets, all I remember is having to take out a couple of screws on the edge that faces down towards the pan. Lift the metalback up after the screws are out and and it should come right off. I believe there's a clip or two holding it on towards the top. I have no idea what color the black is, sorry. Good luck. 64elkynss

I have found that GM Plastic Paint Primer part # 1052364 looks good for black consols, seat backs ,dashs, etc. I am lucky and have a good GM parts man that will sell it by the can. Rodney

As others have said with the seat released so that the top is lying flat on the seat bottom. There are sometimes three screws. one on left, one on the right, and one in the middle. Lifts up and off. You will then notice the two clips that the back slides on to.

careful when prepping the metal seat backs for paint. There is a grain stamped on the seat backs that will be damaged by normal sanding. You will need to chemicaly strip them and then go light on the primer and paint so you don't loose the grain.
