: New SRP pistons in (pics)...
SS_Sean Jul 12th, 04, 6:22 PM Just got my new SRP pistons in from the brown suited santi claus. They're very nice units. Billet cut tops, very impressive. These are .060 over for 454, 12.7:1 compression...

Nice!
How tall are those domes?
SS_Sean Jul 12th, 04, 6:26 PM I still think they should be used as a wall decoration, they're so damned good looking! :D
mr 4 speed Jul 12th, 04, 6:28 PM Sean, what are you doing with the old pistons? Email me

pdq67 Ha! I was thinking more like wind chimes so you can see them 3D. :D
Anyways, not a whole lot of point to this post other than I was really pleased with SRP's quality, and the price of $490.00.
hoffbug Jul 12th, 04, 7:40 PM I likem
soccerguy045 Jul 12th, 04, 8:02 PM Where did you find them for $490? I priced some and they were about $550..

I'm not sure why they were $60 cheaper then their regular ones, since I'm sure they don't sell a huge amount of them, but they are. I picked them up from Jegs.
10secBu Jul 12th, 04, 9:28 PM Nice looking pieces.
Maybe Mike (Wolfplace), BillK or others can give their opinions on this...
My custom Venolia pistons had the domes hand massaged with a die grinder and cartidge roll to gently round all the sharp edges off so their now a nice round edge. I believe this helps ward off pre-ignition from potential hot spots. My pistons are also thermal coated on the domes and dry film coated on the skirts...might be worth looking into.
mls48341 Jul 12th, 04, 10:28 PM Todd,
The radiusing on the dome edges is indeed to
help eliminate hot spots and promote better
flame travel, thus a more efficient and complete
burn.
RPM Jul 12th, 04, 10:43 PM Look too nice to get dirty. Did you buy nine so you could always have one as a conversation piece?

SS_Sean Jul 13th, 04, 2:39 AM Boy, those looks awfully familiar, Rich... :D Nice pieces, huh? graemlins/beers.gif
Rich-L79 Jul 13th, 04, 5:18 PM Mine are 427 slugs (.030 over) so probably weigh a bit less than yours but they do look about the same. I'm running open chamber heads so I should end up in the 10:1 territory. They are darn purdy!
They sure were hard to find in a 427 configuration. I had a few hyper piston options, but I kept looking until I found these forged items. Speed Pro also had a set of forged, but they were quite a bit more heavy and certainly no cheaper. And no one had the Speed Pros in stock anyway so they were not really an option.
