ok, I just started to notice this 'buzzing' sound while I drive. I only can hear it when I'm driving in the underground garage with my window down (meaning - it comes from the outside of the car). It sounds like an electrical-type buzzing, but it's not there when I'm idle-ing forward, only when I accelerate past about 2-3 MPH. I can't really tell if it's there at faster speeds, because of the wind and exhaust noise.
I don't have any extra electronics, and my radio is off, so it's not from the speaker/radio. Any thoughts?

external regulator will make a buzzing sound if overcharging the batt.

I think I just have an alternator as part of the 350 swap. Isn't the regulator only used with the older generator?

nope, check the rad. support near the drivers side headlight. that 2 1/2x2 1/2
black box is your regulator. be sure to disconect your battery before fooling with it.
ok, i'll check it out. thanks

Could be your trans if it is a turbo 350. The planetary gears make a small amount of noise when the trans is in low gear. It should stop when it shifts to second. The whine the gears make could be mistaken for an electrical noise.

powerglide. which does does slip a bit when on a hill. also has a leak somewhere. could this be a culprit too?

Is it possible to stand outside of the car while a partner sits inside and lets the car creep forward while you walk along and listen to where the noise is coming from?

hehe - this will be a good one. she's afraid of the El Camino. i dunno if she's afraid because of the manual steering, manual brakes, or just afraid to be SEEN in it! but great idea, i'll try it...
