I found a 70 SS 402 with ps, pb & factory air. It also has an automatic on the column. Did anyone ever see an SS with with this before? What would this car be worth in good shape?

I don't know what it would be worth sight unseen. Maybe $3500-9000. But the buckets and console were options, not std equip. So the base SS auto would be on the column.

A column shift car is less desirable. So figure its worth less than a console car

DZ is correct as far as buckets and console being options.
My friend has (had) a documented 70 LS6 car, bench, column auto, non cowl hood, stripe delete.
It was there at the Tulsa show this year.
Black in and out- still pretty desirable.

My 70 SS is a column shift car, and I actually prefer this combination. How many SS cars does one see that haven't been converted to buckets? I've never seen any deviation in value from bench to buckets, console to non-console, when considering a 1970 SS.

Getting caught up here, so I'm replying to another old topic. As far as the value and/or desirability of bench seat column shift cars, I agree that they tend to be less desirable, since they're less performance-oriented. Since buckets and console are extra-cost options, they're generally going to increase the value of the car. Of course, its also a matter of personal preference. Some people prefer and will pay more for a bench seat car. But on the whole, more people are interested in bucket seats and consoles, which is why so many people swap out bench seats.

My '70 SS396 (now a "12-sec. car" as of this weekend - WHOOPIE!) has a column-shifted TH-400 and bench seats. She's mine and I love her...but I occasionally catch myself fantasizing about those consoled, floor-shifting Muncie Chevelles. Oooh...sexy!

speaking of the column shifts,
will there come a time when column shift 70 ss chevelles increase in price over the bucket/console models, just cause of prodution numbers,or did they make more with column shift!67RAT member #199
