I got some rear control arms out of a 70 cutlass and am using them to swap into my chevelle simply because they are clean and mine are pretty pitted. The lowers look different but seem like they should work. The ring that the bushing goes through is on the outside on the cutlass arms but its on the inside on the chevelle arms(lowers) Also the end of the chevelle arm is maybe 1/16 wider but i dont think it should matter because the bushing sticks out farther than the arm ends and the bushing sleeve is actually what contacts the frame right? Also there were two extra braces that came with the cutlass arms.Anybody know where they went and is it worth it to install them on my car?

There were many different stylies of rear lower control arms on the GM A body 64 through 72 cars. They all are 100 % interchangable. Not sure what the brackets are that you are talking about unless they are the frame braces that were installed between the frame mounts for the rear upper and lower control arms. If that is what you are talking about they are worth installing.:waving:

They install from the top arm frame side bolts to the lower arm frame side bolts.

This picture is of the brace for 64, 65, 66 and 67 cars. They are different from 68, 69 70, 71, and 72 because the upper arms on the early cars are longer. They bolt in the same place.:waving:

Yes! Mostly on SS cars. They may have also been on F41 optioned cars but not sure. Here are some pictures of the braces that went on the late model cars.:waving:

As mentioned most of the high horsepower cars had them. I believe 4 speed cars also came with them. They were factory installed on a 70 Malibu with an L48, Muncie and a 12 bolt I used to own.

I took a set of these braces off of a '72 Lemans with a two barrel 350 engine.

They were also on my '69 Malibu 2bbl 350/TH350 car... mine may have been an F40 car though, as it had some stiff 225# rear springs that were stock-height, and the car was unmolested.

Is it possible that these were added after the fact? It was my understanding they came on SS, F41, and four speed cars?????:waving:

I have a set of these and have been toying with installing them on my Chevelle bracket car with a automatic, with these help increase traction or just change ride height and does the car need to be flat or raised up for correct install, the set I have one end bolt hole is elongated, for adjustment? give me your thoughts Thanks Jerry

They do not change the ride height. They just help strengten the frame. The car can be in the air or on the ground, makes no difference. The elongated hole is wear. There is no adjustment. Maybe somones frame was twisted and they elongated the hole to get it on?????

Bolt them on! :waving:

According to the Chevy parts books, any car with an engine bigger than a 307 received the frame braces. You'll see them advertised on ebay as F41 braces, but they came on many non-SS cars that didn't have F40 or F41.
