Yes without a notched float , the needle and seat won't open far enough when you are hard into it, causing lean , fuel starvation etc.

BG makes some jet extentions that are flattened oval tubes that will work with the stock float. We use them on the boats alot because often you get a really steep angle (nose up) while a boat planes out and all the fuel ends up in the back of the bowl.

I also have them in my 950 on the 505

Thanks for the replies:
Not 100% sure the carb needs them but I figure it cant hurt?
It's actually for a friends carb., he has a problem with the motor wanting to shut off if he get into it hard then lets off quickly.
Any better ideas would be appreciated?
Thanks T.C.

If it dies after letting off floats could be to high or fuel pressure just a bit high.

Extensions wouldnt hurt anything

It's sloshing out the vents. Run a piece of fuel hose between the vents and cut a flat notch at the high point.

Thanks again for the replies, although one I don't understand?
The weird thing is my friend said he lowered the floats and the problem went away?
But now the floats are to low and that cant be good?
