Does anyone know if you can install a floor console for an automatic into a 71 that has the non-SS dash? I have the dash with the long sweep spedo, not the 3 round gauges.
I have the console in place and want to be able to get it to light up and for the neutral safety switch to work. I have all the wiring for the console and the console extension, but just need to know if there is a place to plug it into under the dash. If there is no place to plug it in, which wires do I need to dig into to make this work?
Any Ideas?
Thanks

Should be no problem with the correct extension harness.
Mounted on the coulumn is the reverse and NS/Switch. Look for 2 thick purple wires for the NSS and a green and a pink wire for the reverse lights switch.
From memory you can just plug the extension harness into the column socket for both and run it down and under the carpet to the new switches in the horseshoe shifter, plug them in and away you go.
Those colors are from a 69 so I'm not sure if that's 100% correct ?
someone will correct me for sure if I'm wrong.
You will also need a lighting harness.
Or you can run a +12v (orange) and a switched ground (white from dome light switch) for the courtesy light.
The shifter backlight can get power from the fusebox (dash lights) or splice into a grey wire (+) to the ashtray light for example and a ground to the shifter.
Again this may not be 100% accurate but corrections will definately come soon if I've forgotten anything ? :D
Hope this helps ?

I just did the same thing on my 72. I jumped off the grey wire that lite up climate control (grey) ran the wire down to the harness and put a female spade and pluged it into the console harness that will supply the indicator lights. Ground the harness to the shifter.
Anychevy was right! Orange wire and a ground from your door switchs will light up your courtesy light on the back of your console.
Good luck!
