Hello,
Im trying to set a value on my El Camino. It needs some work in areas so i figured i would take a poll as to what the value drop is from its problems. Sorry its a bit long.
First off its not a numbers car. There is no documentation to prove origionality. I know the block is non origional from running the numbers but all of the other parts of the car are origional or extremely well done cloning. Power disc front brakes, green numbered SS dash, good heads, turbo 400 auto, 12 bolt posi rear, SS wheels.
It is an AC car, though it is not hooked up right now. I have all the brackets and 2 pumps (one of which worked when my dad took it out). I dont know why he took it out, but it wasnt blowing real cold.
The bad -
The bed needs repaired. The sides are fine, but the actual floor of the bed needs to be sanded to get rid of the rust. Its not cancerous but it is starting to get thick. I just pulled the tank out to repair it and the bottom of the bed looks great. Also someone patched a piece of it by the tailgate and couldn't weld worth a crap. There is a bad looking weld. recut and weld the plate in the back, sand, and replace the smuggler compartment plate and it would be solid.
There is a small rust hole going from the smuglers comp to the cab on the passenger side. Not big and its low down. maybe 6 inches high and 1 inch across. needs to be cut out and plated.
the paint sucks. Looks real good from 20 ft, but whoever painted it didnt prep, so it flakes off in the door jams and along the rain gutters of the cab.
The heater control wont change from floor to defrost (or any other setting). The heater itself works great as does the fan. My dad said it was a vacum leak under the dash, so i have the pad off and am getting a leak detector to try to fix. This is the only "trick" to the car. It is still set enough on defrost to defog the window.
The good -
Runs and drives like a top. Could easily be a daily driver. Choke works and no back fires hicups or power bogs. at 70 you can let go of the wheel with no deviation. Brakes are new a little while ago and it stops great, no shudder or pull. No overheating issues even in 90 degree whether (which is about 2 days a year here). new tires. Front end rebuilt (in stages over the last year or so). no leaks and the fluids are clean (always changed the oil at 3000 or so). no rust in any wheel wells, and only one dent on the front fender (shalow and no creases) from a 2 mph contact with a mailbox while backing up. no electrical problems and everything works (cept whats mentioned above, and the clock). Just put shorty headers on it and has aluminized 2.5 exhuast with flows. rearend rebuilt about 2 years ago (no damage dad wanted different ratio). got HEI in it. bunch of new under the hood stuff (water pump, wires, coil, etc). All i can think of right now, ask questions if you got them and thanks for any help you can give.
