Hey chevelle fans, I have searched the sight for all header insatll posts. When installing headers on my 1972 SS BB. From the bottom on a lift is it still necessary to lift the motor for the drivers side header to be installed? or is lifting the engine only for installing from the top? My car is completed and I will be rplacing the manifolds this spring. And fear having to lift the engine the paint on engine and compartment are near perfect. The headers i bought are hedman elite 1 3/4's. Please help easy my mind thanks! Gary

I installed hookers in my car and i had to lift engine to install drivers side and that was installing from bottom. Its just to tight to get them in there.

All my drivers side BBC headers go in from underneath with the motor jacked up..no getting around it either..also,remove the oil filter to give you some room..

Thanks for the replys, can you tell me what is the best way to lift engine without damage to painted areas or oil pan? When i purchased my car the oil pan was stoved in. I assumed from someone jacking up on oil pan! I have replaced it and do not want it to happen again.

You can remove the carb and get one of the engine lift plates that bolt to the carb pad on the intake..

Thanks again guys just a little nervous my SS is so sweet! Would hate to damage anything. If I use the carb plate would that lift the engine up straight, or will it allow the engine to tilt? I guess i should only remove the Left engine mount bolt and tilt the engine??

..just remove the drivers side bolt..you will be fine..I've done this before..you don't need a tilter..it will do it automatically..use the last or center hole on the engine lift plate..
