For power gains and reliability which would you choose:

Open chambered low compression engine that has a roots blower sitting atop it

--------------OR---------------------

Naturally aspirated high compression engine with reguar intake

**What's the pros/cons?**

The N/A engine personally. A lot cheaper to build and you can keep it under your hood.

A friend of mine has a small blower on a 327 and runs 11.8's with it. I run 11.3's with my N/A 383 . . . both will run well if you do it up right.

Ya I'm looking for ways other than spray to really up my hp in my old truck. It already has a 350 with a .030 bore and 76 cc GM 993 heads. I was kinda thinking if I didn't do a head swap maybe I could do an intake swap to a blower. :D

Well, you don't have to go with a roots type blower. Just go with a centrifugal supercharger without the hood problems! ;) :D

Please educate me on what a centrifugal blower is....oh, how does it differ from a roots blower?

A centrifugal supercharger/blower is very similar looking to a turbo. The difference is the centrifugal supercharger runs off of it's belt, like a roots blower, whereas a turbo runs off the exhaust. A centrifugal blower is bolted to it's pulley brackets, whereas a roots type blower, which has its own intake manifold, bolts on top the motor. So now that a centrifugal blower bolts onto the pulley bracket system, it allows you to keep your intake manifold of choice. The carb is just slightly more tricky, being that it has to be built for the pressure it has to subdue. There really isn't any rocket science to it, but there are mods that have to be done. Such as, the choke horn needs to be milled off the main body, fill in the choke-rod hole, and install nitride floats in the front and rear fuel bowls. Well, I hope I helped :D

ATI PROCHARGER! its a cent. blower, and they are awesome. u can throw an intercooler on it and run high boost with about 8.5:1cr.and its all under the hood.

Gotta agree with with Aaron, I love ATI as well. That's what I want to put on my '91 Camaro Z28 :D

Where do you get an ATI?

Looks like Summit sells one made by Vortech...I wonder if they're any good?

Personally, Vortech is ok, but I'd rathre go with a ProCharger. It's internally oiled so you don't have to worry about making holes in your oil pan. Plus as an added bonus, you use an air-to-air intercooler, rather then a water-to-air intercooler like Vortech.

This is in ATI's site which refers to Vortech lowering their claims of actual hp output.

So on a Vortech it's required you put holes in the oil pan to lube it up eh?

BTW thanx for the link.
