Hello. I was wondering if anyone has run the Fel-Pro#1094 head gaskets with vortec heads? I'm looking for the most compression possible (drag car running race gas). The 1094 is .019" thick/4.100" bore. If not, how about the 1003?
Combo for who care:
+.030 350 studded 4 bolt main block
GM Steel 1053 Nitrided Crank
Eagle ESP H-Beam Rods
Manley Forged Flat Top Pistons
Vortecs with 5 angle valves job, Ferrea 2.02/1.60 valves, screw-in studs, guide plates, milled 60cc chambers
Super Victor Single Plane
Holley HP750
Cam - TBD
Thanks in advance!

The 1094 (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=FPP%2D1094&N=120+4294925237+4294925236+300568) is .015" thick. A number of folks on this board are using them with Vortec heads. They seem to work OK.

I have the 1094's on my vortec headed 327. I used Copper Coat on them and was very careful to torque them in 5 LB increments when I got close to the required torque value. I have never retorqued them even after the first heat cycle and they do not leak. The heads were new but the block was not machined prior to putting them on and they were not perfect on the surface. Everyone says that the mating surfaces have to be perfect to run steel gaskets but I don't agree. I also did the head change with the block still in the car and had to move the heads around a little to get them to seat on the dowel pegs and they still didn't leak. Just make sure that all of the debris and any rust around the water jacket holes is completely removed and you should be OK. Also, make sure that you chase the threads on all of the bolt holes and use a lubricant on the threads when you torque them up.

I've had good luck with the Mr.Gasket 1130 on two engines: a 10.3:1 350 and an 11.3:1 383. Compressed thickness is .018-.020 and they are embossed so you don't have to use any sealer. 16.95 a pair, compared to almost $40 for a pair for the 1094's.
Hey Pat - How come your car runs 11.50 at 115 and mine only runs 11.95?!

I've purchased the SCE .015 composite gaskets to use when installing Vortecs on the 350 in my '67 thats now in progress.
I have used the Felpro 1094 gaskets on a previous Vortec project with great results.
