Is there any more inexpensive alternative to measuring valve spring height ACCURATELY on a set of SBC Heads then the $50-75 valve spring micrometers?

Borrowing a Valve Height Mic is the only other way I know of.

Sure there is AND do I have the solution!!

I took a 6 or 8 finish nail and cut the point off and then filed it so that it fit between the retainer and the spring seat.

Just pull the retainer up tight and insert the filed nail for fit..

Then measured it with my Helios dial calipers!! Worked great!!

Happy Holiday's...

These are the tools that I have used for all of the heads that I have assembled.

Telescoping Gauge (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=5649) and Dial Calipers (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=5647). From Harbor Freight they are $15 each. And you will use them for many other things. A good investment. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I used the telescoping gages and a dial vernier as well. This works just fine.
