: Confirm Lunati 60103 Cam Choice
Brad May 2nd, 07, 12:58 PM Hey all, looking at swapping cams. Stock '70 350, stock heads but would like to upgrade this year (but for now would like the cam to work with the current smaller heads), 3310 Holley, headers, 2.5 exhaust (X-pipe), M20, currently a 2.73 Post 10-bolt but getting a Tom Lowe 3.42 Posi 12 Bolt next month. Car is 98% street, but as with most, I like to get on it when I have the space. I drive it enough that a good idle is important.
After looking at old posts, and hearing nothing but praise for the Lunati 60103 I am interested in it. Anyone have any opinions on the suitability with my combination? With the current rear gear/M20 first gear combination being the limiting factor right now, I would like to get a cam that will work properly with the soon to come 3.42 (and if it works well with the present 2.73 for the next month and a bit, all the better).
Let me know what you all think. Thanks guys (and girls)!
PS. With the current lifters being 2 summers old, is there a need to change them? They came in a kit with the Comp Cams kit.
blaze May 2nd, 07, 1:13 PM Always replace the lifters on a flat tappet cam.
OutCast May 2nd, 07, 3:13 PM I've got the big block version, 60203 for my 454. Very highly regarded cam. Give this post a read before stuffing your new cam in.

Good luck.

Read that prior to installing the current cam (Comp Cams). Great resource. Used lots of EOS, proper oil, and primed the oil pump before firing it up. Seemed to work out fine. Just wish I had done some more research before chosing the cam.
Good to hear another thumbs up for the series. Anyone else with a similar setup to mine (engine/trans/rear gear) want to add to the praise?
BillsCamino May 2nd, 07, 4:43 PM Just be sure those "stock heads" valve springs are up for the task of that .500"+ lift. ;)
Other than that, you're good to go. Enjoy!
JimChevy May 2nd, 07, 6:59 PM Bill makes a good point about the lift, especially with pressed rocker studs. Anybody know the max lift with pressed studs??? Just curious.

over .480" is pushing it imo, with a newer casting you could probably get away with more. Older stuff I would just put screw in studs for piece of mind.
Heads are 3927185. Current cam has 0.454"/0.480" lift. I was wrong, cam is a Crane (113942), not a Comp. Not sure if I should even bother putting any money into these current heads as far as screw in studs go. Maybe my best bet is to put the cam money into the piggy bank and start saving for replacement heads. Always seems that when I do that I end up buying something else before the money is saved up.
Thanks for the replies guys!
BillsCamino May 2nd, 07, 9:05 PM The Voodoo 60103 is .489/.504" w/1.5 rockers.
If you don't want to install screw in's, I would roll pin the rocker studs as a precaution.
Still assuming the existing springs will handle the lift.
