: UD Harold- cam question
sschevellefan Feb 13th, 05, 1:12 AM I`m thinking about the cam in the link for my 8.5 compression 402. The motor is a LS3 402 with 8.5 compression rated at 300hp. It`s in a 68 short bed p/u with a automatic and 3.08`s for now, I have 3.73 gears for it. How would this cam run? Should I advance it to get the cranking compression up or install it straight up? Would you recomend a better cam? Thanks.

Wolfplace Feb 13th, 05, 1:28 AM I'm not Harold but that is a very lazy cam & the separation is to wide for a small engine in my opinion.
In Lunati, I'd look at one of Harold's newer Voodoo cams.
60201 or 60202 would be my choice. ;)
sschevellefan Feb 13th, 05, 1:30 AM Thanks Mike. I`ll check it out.
sschevellefan Feb 13th, 05, 1:39 AM I looked at them and I think the 60201 would work best for me. Should it be installed advanced, straight up? Thanks.

sschevellefan Feb 13th, 05, 12:07 PM Thanks again Mike. How about a spring recomendation?

Pat Kelley Feb 14th, 05, 12:37 AM Check out what Lunati (http://holley.com/HiOctn/ProdLine/Products/IEC/IECC/Voodoo.html) recommends.
sschevellefan Feb 14th, 05, 2:23 AM It says "stock valve springs for most applications" for the cam I was looking at. I don`t know about using the 60201 with stock springs.
Wolfplace Feb 14th, 05, 1:35 PM Any spring with about 110-130 seat & 280-320 open should be fine.
Standard closed spec should be 1.880 to 1.900 if your heads are right.
Comp uses a 911 on about everything street for their hyd cams
I don't know Lunati's numbers.
Crane also has an excellent spring a lot of folks use on here but I don't remember the number.
Comp Products has springs that work very well according to a number of members also & they are probably cheaper.
I would just order the springs with the cam & lifters, it saves a lot of hassle for a few dollars ;)
Pat Kelley Feb 14th, 05, 4:09 PM 73815 is the Lunati spring number. That's why I posted the link so you could look it up.

I did look it up and I did see the part number for the springs but not everyone uses the same brand springs and cams. It even says in most cases stock springs would work but I did`nt think stock springs would hold that much lift. I`m new to big blocks and I don`t know what stock springs are rated for and what the limits are. Thanks is why I asked about the springs, not because I`m to lazy to look them up myself.
GRN69CHV Feb 14th, 05, 8:41 PM Put in my .02 here. I would strongly consider the VooDoo 60201 Cam. 256/262 213/219 .515/.530 112LSA / 108 ICL. Install it dot to dot and double check the timing install to get it close to 108 ICL. You will pick up a lot of cylinder pressure compared to what is in there now. The .050 duration is about the same as the factory 402/350HP cam, but the seat timing is much shorter and of course the lift is greater. Use your stock springs. If the motor revs plenty, leave them, if not just install a new stock replacement set.
UDHarold Feb 14th, 05, 10:18 PM I predict the 60201 will become our most popular real street cam. It will idle down, has good vacuum, will give great milage in duallies hauling race cars, work with stock converters and gears, A/C, PB, etc, etc, etc.
In a 355 with stock Vortec heads and stock Vortec springs, the 256 would turn 6200......
Peak power was about 4800....

sschevellefan Feb 14th, 05, 10:57 PM The 60201 is what I`m going to use. I think I`ll just install new stock springs and see what happens. Thanks.
