I'm building a 496 for my 65 vette and everyone keeps pointing me over here as the place to ask questions about a BBC. so here goes. I am using a scat forged 4.25 crank using a .25 inch longer connecting rod, a set of 320CC port pro topline heads with a street port job on them. I'm topping it off with an Offy dual quad intake with 2 edelbrock 600 CFM carbs. i havent bought the pistons or cam setup yet . I would like to go with a solid roller. my car wighes a little over 3000 lbs and has a tremec 5 speed OD tranny in it. the rear end is a 3:90 open diff. I would like to skew the power towards the top end as my car will never really get traction and if it did the IRS set up would fall apart. i want to run on pump gas.and it's gonna spend 95% of it's time on the street. well thanks in advance

Nice to see you took my advice, tons of info on 496, do a search under 496 or even udharold or lunati solid roller, you will find lots to read.

First, for a piston the SRP 142991 (new number 212157) will give you about 10.2 with a 118cc head & a zero deck.

Here's few cam suggestions that should work pretty fair.
Maybe the Cam Master will stop by with some of his new stuff to keep me honest,,,, (Hi Harold graemlins/waving.gif )
Harold's 502A5 on a 112 separation
Iskys R514/R553 lobes 112 sep
Comps 1477/4206 lobes 112 sep
All installed 4-6 degrees advanced.
Springs with about 225 seat/550 open
Isky Red Zone Lifters

If you email me I can probably save you a few dollars on the Red Zone lifters or any other Isky stuff ;)

Off the subject a little be real careful with the IRS when you have that much torque. When they let loose it can become a very dangerous situation. I would think about some upgrades.

Gregg,

Mike's suggestion of the 502A5LUN ground on 112 LSA is excellent.
If you decide to order it, the part number is 50299---BBC custom-ground roller cam--and the grind number is 02-UR9-UR66-12-A01. The specs are 286/296 at .020, 255/263 at .050, .695"/.680" valve lift, and 112 LSA. It should go in dot-to-dot at 108 Int CL, and anywhere from 106 to 108 Int CL is just fine. Run the valve lash about .020"/.022" hot to kill off excessive bottom-end.
As you engine will be making over 600 BHP at 6200, you will need a very good fuel system in your car. Flatness or laziness about 5500 means your engine is leaning out from lack of fuel.
We use this cam in race cars running to 7500....
