I posted this in the performance section but didn't get any good responses. I hope to have a new exhaust system installed this week. What mufflers and pipe sizes should I get? The engine is a .060 over 427 with approx 500 hp. I have 2" Hooker headers. Right now there is a short tail pipe that just dumps out of the muffler. It is too loud. Should I go with chambered, H pipes or not other with either one?

My buddy just put a 3" summit kit on a 71 camaro 502 motor and used the summit chambered mufflers that came with it. It was too loud and sounded horrible. I put a 2 1/2 system on my 489 10:1 motor and used the raptor turbos and it is very quiet for 547 hp. Just installed the raptors on the 502 last night and much quieter. We will be glad to change out the mufflers when they loud over time.

No h or x pipe. The 2 1/2 on the 489 just have about 20" on the back of the mufflers with turn downs just in front of the rear housing. I am very pleased how quiet it is.
