: Wiring help, starter HEI with new harness
SMilligan Apr 29th, 07, 9:55 PM Just ordered NPD engine harness with HEI option, have HEI wires now running from fuse box. I assume this will not be needed. Can anyone tell me which wires go on the starter? There is an S and an R on the starter.
Thanks,

Steve S Apr 29th, 07, 10:08 PM Purple wire goes on S. Nothing goes on R for HEI. Only needed for points. The R terminal would provide full 12v to coil when starting.

Yep, but if you install a full gauge it will still work, the wire doesn't care. :D
DRLs68 May 1st, 07, 11:52 AM I was just going to ask the same question about the wiring. So the lead that goes the the R terminal on an HEI should just get capped off?

I spoke to American autowire today, here's what he said:
Orange is for heater blower on non ac cars, not used on ac cars
Blue is oil pressure
Purple to S on starter
Yellow not needed for HEI vehicles goes to R on points setup.
I bought the HEI option with the harness and the yellow and purple terminate together in the HEI plug.
