The lil 414 bbc is now gone...at least the shortblock is. A fellow picked it up this last Saturday. As much as I really hated that short stroke aluminum rod deal, it sure did run quite well even considering it's handicaps.

I'm a bit concerned that it's replacement won't run much quicker, but we'll just have to wait and see. My goal for 2005 is to run 10.0's, but that may be a lofty goal for a high compression 460/468 with oval port heads.

Still trying to source a good 454 block. I picked one up the other week, but it needs a sleeve and it appears to have some core shift...also not a 74 block like the seller claimed.

I have a lead on a block in Ohio, just gotta find a way to arrange pickup/delivery from th owner.

Was able to pick up a nice GM 454 steel crank (std/std) a couple weeks ago.

Looking forward to getting started once we finally have a good usable block in hand.

Todd,

I guess that is good news/bad news on selling the 414. It did run good. I would have to think the new one will run better yet.

Keep us posted on how the new combo is coming.

My new stuff should be done at the machine shop next week. graemlins/hurray.gif I can ask if they have any leads on a good BBC block if you like. It would probably be about $100 to ship though.

Thanks Jason...looking forward to being able to build a new combination.

No need to ask about a block as it would be too far to ship a huge piece of cast iron. Gonna find one locally, just may take some time.

Keep me posted on when you fire the new bullet up. Are you gonna dyno test it first?

Todd,

I do plan on puting it on the dyno before it goes in. Probably going to be a couple of months yet. After I get it back from the machine shop, I will mock everything up and check clearances on the shortblock and see where I am on P-V clearance. If all goes well there, I will send the heads and intake to Mike S. for a little work and a clean up cut.

I still need to decide what I'm going to do on lifters, rockers, and headers.

It's about time I'm getting this thing together.

Having just gone thru this, you might consider a new block rather than going to the expense of checking, correcting, etc. a used block. If you are doing the budget route I have a set of recon dimple rods for sale, couldn't use them when I changed cranks to a 4.25. Good luck.

I'm not interested in Gen V or VI blocks. I've got a real nice, nearly new $300 B&B oil pan to reuse as well as a cast timing cover (and true roller timing set) and standard roller lifters...non of which could be reused on the newer blocks. The only block I would consider other than OEM MK IV is a Dart Big M which is out of the budget. The current budget is $3000 for the complete shortblock which is do-able with the parts I've chosen.

Long live the 'lil rat!

That motor cranked it out!

Now, don't go and screw up by going slower by not revving that 4" crank up there a bit! smile.gif

Seriously, hope you knock on 9's N/A!

I KNOW you'll run better than 10.38 once you have it sorted out. ;) graemlins/hurray.gif

Todd,

Wasn't your block a 4.25"+ bore? (Thought you said it was a de-stroked 427  )

Could you have just installed a 4.0" crank?

Could you have just installed a 4.0" crank? It was, but I felt it best to sell the shortblock as an assembly and start completely over. I also didn't want to have a filled block anymore. It was filled to the bottom of the water pump holes.
