: Ebay professors.......
BlackBetty Apr 29th, 07, 7:52 PM I don't care for ebay. but there is a car I want to bid on. As soon as I posted a question regarding the car, it stated the seller is on another ebay site and may speak another language.
I automatic changed my excitement about the car to reluctant to bid due to all the African Scams.
How do I protect myself?
elcamino66 Apr 29th, 07, 8:15 PM depends on the country. Canada would be ok, just have to contend with customs. Personally I would not do business outside the US and Canada as you have not protection at all.
BlackBetty Apr 29th, 07, 8:27 PM thanks, I agree, car is in Or., and he has 200 transactions. I ask for some assurances ....he comes back with a smart azz answer. WoW THAT made me REAL comfortable.

BB I do lots of business on ebay and have over 800 feedbacks, and I would never buy a car off of EBAY without inspecting it first.. This of course is just my opinion, but over the last 5 years my buddy and I have looked at at least 20 cars all around the southwest and not one of them has been true to the stated description. Here is an example of how ebay can go wrong.... Now the guy can do all the metal work so it might not be that bad for him, but for a non fabricator like myself, this would of been a disaster of a purchase.
I bought a 68 camaro off of ebay and let this be a lesson to help some people what you see and what is explained is not always what you get, if you can keep this one thing in mind when looking at a car through rosie glasses it is this " some peoples definition of good is not always the same as your definition of good'' with that being said i would higly recomend where ever possible taking the trip to go and look ay any car you are considering buying...

Is that the highly desirable and rare optioned moon trunk? ;)
BillK Apr 29th, 07, 9:32 PM Dana,
I treat E-bay the same way I would if I was buying parts or a car out of National Dragster, Hemmings etc. It does not matter where you see it. Would you buy a car out of Hot Rod magazine strictly from seeing the little picture in the ad ? I doubt it. Like Brian said, you have to see it in person or at least have someone look at it for you.
BlackBetty Apr 29th, 07, 9:46 PM Thanks Guys!!!! Seriously helps.....it is a car i wanted BUT I want of course to protect my "wife's":D :D :D hard awaited for shopping money.:noway:
He instantly came back with a smart azz response rather than UNDERSTANDING why a person is cautious. That set my alert REAL high needless to say. NOlimitpkr ....your experience speaks volumes!!!
Thanks guys because I don't trust ebay in the first place....I lurk but rarely. Even on misc. parts I have only been happy with one of 14 purchases. Sometimes it takes a group of friends to bring out some reality...I really appreciate the responses of "common sense".
BlackBetty Apr 29th, 07, 9:48 PM Nolimitpkr.....I'd gone back and someone would have to bail me out of jail on that deal.
Sid Coleman Apr 29th, 07, 9:51 PM Dana, that's where you ask for a local TC guy to check it out for ya :)
BlackBetty Apr 29th, 07, 9:57 PM LOL....but would the local TC guy, tell on me that I was buying a Pontiac ...NOT a Chevelle???:D :D :D
and your right, after a few months here ...I'd trust anyone here to inspect for me.
Sid Coleman Apr 29th, 07, 10:35 PM Careful!!! Those Beaumont guys get all riled up if they think you're making fun of their rides :D :D :D
nolimitpkr Apr 29th, 07, 10:50 PM Here is another one I found, but man I do have to give credit to the guy building the car, I wish my metal fabrication skills were good enough to tackle a project like this.
I literally almost choked on some water when I saw this pic......

I am definately no expert, especially in the body department, but when in doubt looking at a car in person, sure calms the anxiety of a potential chevelle purchase.

70ChevelleRagtop Apr 30th, 07, 2:00 PM Dana,
Never judge a book by its cover...I almost pulled the trigger on a Cortez Silver 70 "SS" a few years ago. I drove 9 hours (one way) and almost punched the guy in the face when I crawled underneath the car for a looksie. Needless to say, Me, my 6 yr old son, and the car trailer drove back home with my cash still in my pocket. A few months later, I found my convertible (I'm glad I waited!).
Signed,
Another guy named Dana
Chevello Apr 30th, 07, 8:41 PM Is that the highly desirable and rare optioned moon trunk? ;)
It appears to have the even more desireable "Bottomless Fuel Tank" option.
