I figured ya'll would know more about this than the resto guys. :)
I bought a Quadrajet from a guy, the fuel inlet threads had been helicoiled. I installed it on the car yesterday and it's leaking fuel from the inlet. I've tightened the 1" nut as tight as I dare, and it still leaks. It has a nylon seal washer on it and the end of the helicoil may be sticking out a little too far. It's NOT leaking from the fuel line, it's definitely the inlet fitting. Anyone here ever run into something like this? Any ideas on a fix without sending it out to a rebuilder? This is going on my original restored '68, so I can't butcher up the carb in any way (JB Weld lines in or stuff like that). Thanks,
BillL

First thing I would do is make sure the heli coil was installed suare. Put some machinist dye on the carb body filter seat. Then run the filter in finger tight and remove .It should be marked all the way around the seat.

If all else fails, Tomco makes a self threading repair fitting. I found them on -line by doing a Google search for Tomco.

a 68 should not have a nylon ring gasket, but a black metal one that I think is real soft aluminum. try getting the right one on it, try stacking 2 of them if that doesn't work. I've had a number of the Heli-coiled ones, never had issues with the deal. Look carefully at it, see that it's not off center and there's a seal surface all the way around.

You can't use a self threading one in a helicoil, that won't work.

All is good with the carb. :hurray: I got the factory aluminum seal washer for the inlet, cranked it down tight & no more leak. :) The carb guy I deal with said that the nylon gaskets are junk, on Holleys and Rochesters. The tighter you squeeze them, the more they deform and leak. Thanks for the great support.
