: Chevelle with a Post??????????????

OK, this is news to me, but I'm sure not to you guys. I had another 69 parked next to me today at a meet. He said he can't find door panels. I told him Ground up, opg, year one, etc....he said they don't fit, because his car is a post car. I never saw this until I looked at his. Is this a 300 Deluxe? with the SS option. I know in 69 the SS package was an option to any Chevelle, but I never saw a post car, and never knew there is a difference in parts, AND, he has a vent window, with a separate window crank for it! I thought that went out in 67, or 68? Rick.

Yes.... you could get a '69 sedan with the S.S. option. I've seen a about half a dozen or so over the past few years. All sedans (post cars) would have the vent window assembly because they didn't have Astro Ventalation. The same applies for the '69-'72 El Caminos/GMC Sprints. The door panels are shorter and the window felts are shorter than their hardtop/conv. counterparts.

I personally am not a huge fan of post cars. They are more rare, so to alot of people think they are worth alot more, to the others nope. As said many times on here, rare doesnt mean desirable. I like all chevelles, but the guys who like the posts can have them.

It would appear you are out numbered. It is very "different" looking from a hardtop. And thanks for the info everyone, and good luck to the guy who was parked next to me in trying to get those door panels and window felts! Rick

My 2dr post is not an SS, or even a V8. However, someone besides myself likes it as it has been awarded in 3 of the 4 "Rod" shows I attended last year.

Way back when I found the post cars had less wind noise and water leaks than hardtops. But I like the hardtops better. I even had a '70 Pontiac tempest post car, never seen another.

I can't think of too many more desirable cars than a 69 SS 396 Chevelle post car. I love the sleeper look, with the rubber floor mats instead of carpet, the low budget seat covers etc. Give me an L-78 bench seat 4 speed and I'd be all set. Don Lightfoot's 69 post is a piece of art in my opinion. I've been looking for another Chevelle for a couple years, and the 69 post is at the top of my list of cars to consider.

I just started searching for a sedan (post car). I believe it is going to a difficult search. I am hoping to find a 69, 66, 67 two door sedan.
from what I have learned so far is to make sure that the car is complete because emblems and interior stuff is impossible to find, anything that is really specific to the sedan is usually not reproduced.

as always no one ever answers the posted question...i would contact PUI Interiors.com and they could probably steer you in the right direction. why do the post questions turn into debates when someone ask where to get parts or information? he doesn't care how you feel or think the best body style is or was.

That's the only true question I saw in the original post. Seems like it was answered pretty well right away.

maybe you should re-read the original post.

There was no direct question about where to get interior parts.
he was Quoting or repeating his conversation that he had with an owner of a 2-door post chevelle. then,..........he discusses how he was not familiar with the 2-door post chevelles. and the questions in fact were more about the body style than an interior question. So therfore before you get on your high horse maybe you should read and understand the original post a little better yourself.

And maybe there are a lot of people posting here who don't really care about how you think people should post or respond to a public board ;)

Rick, if you happen to know that guy who owns the post car, or perhaps see him again, you might want to relay this information.

WINDOW FELTS - I've had a correct set on the shelf for about a year now. I ordered them for the time when I would redo my door panels. I didn't use them as the door panels I had redone came with them. Below are a couple of pictures from the package. They even came with the correct staples. They were made by "Repops, 273 Repop Pl., Pearcy, AR, 71964" (sorry, no phone number). I ordered mine through Ron Normann at McHenry Classic Car Parts in Illinois 815-648-1539.

DOOR PANELS - PUI Interiors do make a set of panels for the 69 Post Cars. However, for whatever reason, they used the "Malibu" trim rather than the "300 Deluxe" trim. As long as you have a set of the upper steel frames you can send them away for all new vinyl, moldings, emblems, cardboard, etc. It is very expensive and could take up to a year to get them back (Ask me how I know?). The company that will do these is SMS Auto Fabrics (http://www.smsautofabrics.com) in Oregon. I don't know, but they might in fact be doing interior door panels for other years of sedans.

Bill Rose - nice to see your comments above after all the hassle you've been giving me about some of my "Day II" performance parts add-ons :D

One thing I do like about my post '68, it hides the roll cage quite stealthily. And yeah, it is different, just like it's owner.

You guy's need to meet after the fourth period bell and straighten this out.. Anyway I like ALL Chevelle's but I like my 66 post sedan because you don't see that body style that often. Don't really care what's shes worth cause she's peeerty, and not going anywhere.:D

You guys think the 69 300's are hard to find door panels for, try finding door panels for a 69 Cutlass S 2 door sedan.
I'm currently working on 2 69 Cutlass's and one is a hdtp and one is a post car. I need door panels for the post car, but they are definitely different than the hdtp's.

Other than the wing window crank hole, the biggest problem I see is the gap at the rear at the top.
This post car I am working on now has had some 71 or 72 Cutlass hdtp panels put on it and there is a big hole at the rear of the panel on the top.
I'll try to get some pics tomorrow that will show what I mean.

I've emailed a couple door panel sellers on eBay and one even came back with a response and said he didn't know what I was talking about.

2 door post panels are desirable in any condition. Even rotted and torn up, the metal upper panel could be reused. I need to find a pair myself.

Comparing apples to apples, the shipping weight of a '69 300 Dlx V8 2 dr sedan is exactly 40 lb less than a 300 Dlx V8 hardtop. And a Malibu V8 hdtp is exactly 25 lb more than a 300 Dlx V8 hardtop.

I'm 100% with Bill Rose.
The older I get, the more I like the Plain Jane sleeper look. No frills, no fancy wheels (just dog dish caps), no trick paint or outward special appearance. The ONLY exception that I like is a wider than stock wheel (7 or 8in wide) to accomodate a slightly wider that stock original skinny tire.
Just a plain car, massive, but stock looking engine, 4sp and posi-------------------------------and, sorry guys, air cond!
I was at a cruise at a Sonic not long ago, and a guy showed up in a 65 ULTRA plain Mopar post--------------------all it had was a HEMI and 4sp. It looked as if it rolled right off of the showroom floor in 65. The only outward variation from a "stock" look, was the factory hood scoop with the 2 holes that mated with the top of the carbs!

I know it's a little confusing since both cars are red with white tops.

Since the sedans have the vent window as does an El Camino, is there a chance that the Camino panels would fit or could be made to work?

I've got to agree here. Post cars are better suited for a pro street build. It just makes more sense. You won't notice my cage either. Plus, I don't really dig the fins behind the rear window on the 66-67. Just a matter of taste.
