I found an 70 SS clone car on E-bay, what is this car worth?

It has a 10 bolt rear non-posi, 350 non-original motor

the winner of the auction is considering selling....

Is it worth buying? If I put a nice moser 12 bolt & Big Block in there what would it be worth then?

Description 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu, car is an original sport coupe V8 with the bench red interior, automatic on the column. The car runs excellent has a 350 V8, has power steering and power brakes. The interior has new carpet and a new headliner, seats are in excellent condition as well as all the glass on the car. The dash is in decent shape the vent and blower work, the radio is inop, and the gas guage floats in and out. There is also a piece missing on top of the vent controls, not sure what is supposed to be there. The sterring wheel says malibu and has some cracks in it. The wheels have new beauty rings and rally center pieces, all in good shape, the tires are brand new as well. The paint is in excellent shape and looks great in the sunlight, the chrome is in good shape all the way around, minimal pitting nothing needing really replaced. The underbody is extremely solid, and there are no panels needing replaced on the car or any floor pans. The doors have some rust bubble on the bottom portion of the door, very minimal and the bottom underside of the door has some rust. I am sure there is some bondo in the rocker panel and in the bottom of the quarter behind the wheel, not much if any though. The quarters look to have been replaced at some point, and the paint is not the original color. This car runs and drives excellent and gets look anywhere it goes, it is a sharp car that could be taken to shows or just be used as a driver, it is being offered at very low reserve. Thats a nice car, not to knock the sellers, but I really don't consider a pair of SS stripes, bumper pad and hood, a 70 SS clone. Being a 70 it should at least have a big block, and swap out the dash. Even a monte carlo dash makes it more correct looking. Sorry just my opinion. If your planning on flipping it, save your money on the moser rear, just get a regular 12 bolt. I really dont think a aftermarket rear if going to add as much value as the cost of the rear. Find a dash out of a monte carlo, at least that way you get the round gauges. Then get a big block, and a turbo 400 with a stall. Heck after all that you'll probably never want to sell it. Jim

Do you think the car is worth $9300 us as it is shown in the photos.

I plan on Body Off
Big Block
SS Interior
12 Bolt Rear

Do you think it would be feasible to sell the finished product for around $25,000?

Never seen seat patterns like that in a 70, looks like they're from a mid 60's car....

I'd say it's worth around $9k

I think it is worth $9300 for sure. The way 70's are selling I say thats a great price for a running driving fairly nice 70.

I think you can definitely sell the finished product for $25k, but I think it is going to cost you more than that to do a frame off and put all those parts in there like you are talking(with initial cost of car added in).

What is I'm doing the frame-off myself? and the parts are all coming to me wholesale??

I think it will pay-off?

It might, But remember a few things... Someone looking to spend $25K on a car will likely be very picky (there are still some suckers out their, but are you going to try an pass something off to make a quick profit?)... So make sure you do everything well, and correct (don't take shortcuts with anything)... Any shortcuts found, and the buyer will wonder what else wasn't done well, and look harder. ... I'd also expect a cowl hood to be complete and functional, or else use the standard SS hood (JMO)...

Rust bubbles in the doors? How are you going to "correctly" fix those without repainting the whole car? I doubt a "clone" with rust bubbles will reach $25K, even with a BB and 12-bolt...

For example, IMO, a $25K car (clone) should have a very nice body and paint job, nice glass and nice trim/bumpers. Rust bubbles mean body and paint work is needed... Rust bubbles with newer paint mean someone was trying to hide something; look deeper or walk away...

A $25K clone, I'd expect it to be a true clone; guages and all the correct SS pieces like 12-bolt and front discs and a BB. Doesn't have to be "correct" numbers motor, but at least detailed to look correct... Headers are about the limit for visual modifications, anything more and you run the risk of creating a street machine with personal taste (often harder to sell)...

I'd also expect it to be detailed very well, with a nice drivetrain.

personally, I'd want buckets (with correct upholstery) and a console, and "correct" factory guages (and not just a Monte Carlo dash swap or a different year dash (70/71/72 are all different). Monte dash would be nice for a lower priced car...

Doing most yourself, and wholesale parts, you "could" turn a profit, but I think $25K would be a stretch without putting close to $15K (or more) into it... Of course, you might also lose on a deal like that... How long do you anticipate the resto will take? Are you sure the prices will stay high? Personally, I think prices will level off or drop slightly this year (already seems to be happening)...

$9,300 American dollars or $11,000 Canadian dollars for that car for sure here in Canada. I might be bidding against you now. only kiddin. Looks like that car should clean up real nice without much work.
Be cool if you could see it before you buy. Be cool too with a 4speed instead of the column shift some day as a future plan. Would look way cool with the bench.

You bring up some very good points. It will take alot of work and yes you're right doing alot of those modifications will take a bit of an investment and quite a bit of time.... It is a little risky except that at the end of it all, I'll have a really sweet ride done with love. So if turning a profit is my only concern than it's a big risk, but if I factor in the end result than it all seems worth while.

Thanks again guys for all your help...
