Well Guy's today was the first time I went down the 1320. I was proud of the "Old Red Girl" but the driver ain't too sporty..

1st run
R/T ... .896
60' ... 2.253
330 ... 6.051
1/8 ... 9.086
MPH ... 81.61
1000... 11.682
1/4 ... 13.856
MPH ... 103.87

2nd run
R/T ... .871
60' ... 2.238
330 ... 5.473
1/8 ... 9.089
MPH ... 81.29
1000... 11.692
1/4 ... 13.873
MPH ... 103.45

I always thought that driving the 1/4 mile was simple. Light turns green, floor it, the motor does all the work, strong motor, great time. WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!
The car pulled hard. The driver couldn't figure out how to not spin the tires all the way through 1st and 2nd. I believe the driver saw the green flag drop, pulled up his skirt, and wet the bed! As many times as I told myself "leave at 1500, roll into the throttle SLOWLY, do not break the tires loose, shift into 2nd at 5500 and then into 3rd at 5500, roll through the traps, and smile at the 11.00 time slip".
NOT!!!!!!!! Anyway,

Thanks alot to Ken Jett and this wife, Bill Burke and his wife, and Gordon. Although, I followed none of you advice, I appreciate you offering it.

On a good note, I will tell you all that I am now HOOKED!!

I guess I came online just in time. smile.gif Congrats on your first runs! graemlins/thumbsup.gif It sounds EXACTLY like my first time 1 1/2 yrs ago. I was spinning like crazy off the line but unable to get it into my head to leave easier. My nerves were also on "end" because I drove the 1 1/2 hrs. to get there with 4.11's graemlins/sad.gif and knew I had the drive home to look forward to, also. Plus, being my first time, the whole starting line routine with the lights and all is nerve wracking.

Your dyno numbers suggest you should be way quicker. I hope you will post the tuning process as you get the E.T.'s and mph where they should be. That's going to be at least half the fun! :D

Thanks RM, yea I was a little intimidated at all the "procedures", I will admit that on my first run I was so focused that the starter had to come over and tell me to roll my window up graemlins/sad.gif
You are right, there is alot more in the car. I believe I would do myself good to get a set of slicks. My Nitto 555's just can't keep up under the load.

Motor Matyr, thanks for the advise. From my reation times you would think that I thought there was another color after green graemlins/boring.gif

Thanks Rob, but after I got a look at the car today, I did notice that I broke the top bolt on my upper trailing arm. I noticed that the Driver's side was riding about 2" lower that the left.I'll have to get another bolt and fix that this week.

I remember my first time :D I am now hooked as well. I thought I would run faster as well my first time out. I need many more passes, however each time out I improved. It definately takes practice!

Steve,
Congrats on the first runs at the track. It all can be overwhelming at first, you will get used to it. Looks like some traction is needed. My combo is almost identical to yours in Displacement, trans, converter and rear gear. I don't think I am making as much as 498hp and 560 tq. With your dyno numbers there should be much more in the car. Good luck, keep us posted.

Yeah, I'll bet money that we've all done that one a few times. :D Don't worry, I have a feeling that with the help of all the guys you mentioned that you'll be a pro in no time. ;)

Look at that little ol' 396 motor go! graemlins/hurray.gif

I know those technically savy ATL guys have some digital video footage to post up. well smile.gif

Are you planning to practice more, or just buy more go-fast parts? :D

Here's one of Steve's maiden voyage (http://ss396.home.mindspring.com/Images/SteveH.wmv) passes with the velle'

Nice first outing, Steve. Stick with it because with some practice, chassis tuning (and tires) and perhaps a little engine tuning your car will see 12's.

Well, sorry I missed the show, but I'll be up there this weekend for the points opener. Congrats on the times, that's a pretty powerful 402, and welcome to the dark side smile.gif

Wait now, the dark side is usually resereved for "rat-i-tis"!

Steve, brother I know exactly where you're coming from, with the added complication of a manual tranny.

Don't fret, practice makes perfect. I have maybe less than 10 runs on my new combo, and jsut introduced a line-loc into the procedure. Figure maybe 10 more and I'll have the starting line procedure down pat so we can see what the car will do, ex- bonehead-at-the-wheel!

A dozen runs and you'll get the hang of it is all I'm tryin' to say. Fun stuff and its a pleasure seeing such a beautiful car hauling down the line! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Theoretically, the average reaction time is .5 seconds, so they say that this practice will produce some good reaction times as you launch when the "green" light actually comes on.
