Hey guys,
How many 1/4 mile passes do you guy run before changing the oil. I use Castrol 20W50 and change it every 12 runs. I generally do not drive this car on the street much. Is this about right or am I changing it too often.

I usually change about once a year. Thats about 50-60 1/8 mile passes with a few 1/4 miles thrown in.

Thanks Pat,
I usually change mine when it starts to turn a dark color, which comes out to about 12 runs. I have read where an oil doesn't work properly until it has been in there a while. If you change it too often it never has a chance to become less acidic or something like that. Forgive me for my ignorance, as I cannot recall the post.

I change mine every 2 races (1/8 or 1/4 quarter). I am running valvoline VR1 20W-50 and a WIX filter (They have the thickest top and thickest sheetmetal, and they have more pleats in the filter than any other I have seen. I also cut the filter open after every oil change to check for deposits.

Mike,
What is the lift/compression on your engine? You're servicing that thing like a fuel car :D

11.5:1 and .660 lift cam. I know, but this is how we have always done our race motors (300hp all the way up to 1200hp) That typically is between 12-14 passes. BTW...after that many passes my oil still looks the same color as it went in

Well, changing the oil too often in a race engine isn't a bad thing, IMO. I change my oil and filter (Valvoline 10w-30, K&N filter) after ~50 passes. By then the oil is starting to show signs of hydrocarbon contamination. I run a low tension ringset in my engine and therefore it gets a slight amount of blow-by.
