why would you want one?
a good tight ratio steering box with good tie rods will do just as good, and not have the mounting and bumpsteer issues a rack and pinion brings to the equation.

The only decent one on the market is about $2400 more than it's worth (priced at $2700  )

In all honesty, you'll get much better tech info right here on Team Chevelle than you will from any magazine... advertisers don't pay us big money to tell us what to say. ;)

There is one single advantage to a rack, and that is that they are lighter weight than a typical steering box. Unfortunately, to mount one you need to add a cradle onto the frame, and a funky custom center link to keep from screwing up the bumpsteer. By the time you do all that, I guarantee it will weigh more than a steering box.

For ~$130 you can swap to a used 12.7:1 box from a 92-98 Jeep GRAND Cherokee, and get almost as good of feel and responsiveness.

If you want something better, you can spend ~$350 for a used 12:1 LEE MFG box from a NASCAR team on ebay and get just as good of performance as any rack.

If weight is a major concern, there are lightweight boxes out there too, but they are out of my price-range, so I haven't paid too close of attention.
