Just curious, will all 64-72 A-body (and maybe '70's, and other GMs with the 9" drums) backing plates all interchange? Or a C-clips rears have a different bolt pattern then non-C-clip??

Just curious. I have a project, but the rears are missing all the hardware, except the cables are in the backing plates... The backing plates are really rusty (just surface), but I am really on a budget (I am converting to discs, but trying to hook up the parking brake for short-term storage), as inexpensively as possible (used shoes and drums fronmthe junkyard, and maybe complete backing plates with hardware???)...

Thanks

If your going to go through changing them I would go with the 11" rear set up. If you stay with the 9" some of the later 78-82 malibu's I believe had aluminum rear drums just something to keep an eye out for when your in the junkyards. Can usually pick em up for like $5.00 each the U pull it yard by me has 1/2 price on all parts on mondays...hehe bought 2 of the impala steering boxes for 12.50 each. Just my 2 cents.

BTW tony would the vin on your L78 happen to match 138176F132205? I have been trying to track my dad's car down for years with no luck. I have the original bill of sale dated May 11, 1966 Factory Installed Options --4 speed trans mettalic brakes red line tires positractiion axle Dealer Installed PB radio Rear Antenna Rear Seat speaker Undercoat and brake lock came to a grand total of $3432.95 tax 66.88 for $3499.83 Makes me laugh everytime I look at it 36 payment of $88.06 after the credit they gave him for his 64 409/425HP 4speed Imapla he traded in. It was Aztec Bronze Black bench seat interior L78 396/375HP.

I am going with rear discs (eventually), BUT I need a temporary (and cheap) solution to hook up the parking brake...
