Hey all,

I have a 68' Chevelle and I am looking to put 4 wheel discs on it. Right now it has stock front discs and rear drums. It has too much "going" power and not enough stopping power in my mind. I have been researching all the different companies like Bear, SSBC, Willwood, and most notably CPP. CPP's performance brake system is significantly cheaper than all the others. How do CPP brakes compare to the others. Quality? Reliability? Stopping power? etc.

Anyone had experience with CPP?

Thanks for any input
Happy Friday!:hurray:

Hey Jon....I put their 4 wheel disc system on my 68 SS (550+hp) and haven't had any trouble stopping.....yet....anyway..pretty simple conversion..only issue I had was there was a small lip on the surface of my axle and when I placed the rear disc on, it didn't quite sit all the way flush....gave me a little wheel wobble....I just used a dremel for a brief moment around the inside diameter of the disc and and voila...fixed....good luck...

I have a CPP complete front brake kit that I bought for my 67. I am not very happy with it. The instructions were incomplete. The lines supplied to go from master cylinder to proportioning valve were incorrect.

The kit was sold as only needing hand tools and brake fluid, I have to fabricate my lines from the master cylinder to proportioning valve and from there to the front lines. Plus I need to buy a bracket for the proportioning valve.

The calipers are from a Camaro and the brake line comes out the top of the caliper instead of near the bottom like a Chevelle caliper should. This puts turns in the brake line that are more severe than they should be.

Due to a lack of time, I didn't install the kit for about 10 months or so after I bought it so I could not return it. It would be hard for me to buy anything else from them even though a lot of their stuff looks pretty tempting.

I have to say that the quality of the components was fine, if incomplete or what I consider to be the wrong part needed (the calipers). I have seen other parts from CPP on other cars that looked good. So I would recommend that if you did buy from them, you know exactly what you want and inspect every component as soon as you recieve it and don't buy until you are ready to install. That is what I would do if I was to buy from them again.

There is something to the old saying that if it looks to good to be true, it probably is.

I just got a nice complete set at a good price from Matts Classic bowties. They are worth checking out.

Just for comparison sake. We do have a GPSuperStore.com exclusive Total Car Brake Package using Wilwood Four piston front and Four piston rear, 12.2" front and 12.2" rear, with internal e brake, inlcuding e brake cables, Braided hoses front and rear, master cylinder, proportioning valve, and even 4 pints of the High Temp DOT 4 fluid for only $1600. It's a little bit more then their $1200 package, but a hell of a lot more brake for sure.

At least 16" wheels are required to clear these big brakes. Jim M over at Team Camaro just installed this kit and loves it.

I bought a CPP big brake kit and did the swap and had no probs. The car is not done so I have not had a chance to drive the car yet. I also bought their uper and lower control arms and for the money they are hard to beat. I called and asked a lot of questions before I bought and Aaron at CPP was very helpfull and answered all my questions. I am geting ready to get my rears from them as well and will keep you posted and on how it goes.

I posted a few weeks ago on how it went here is a link to the post with pics

I also installed the CPP kit. I ordered the brainded front lines and the drilled & slotted rotors. The kit was an easy install and the brakes stop great.

Good stuff Pat and Greg.
To anyone: Did the proportioning valve that came with the kit work well or did you need to buy an adjustable one to prevent the rear brakes from locking up before the fronts?

The kit came complete and works great. It works fine now that I was finally able to get it to bleed. I had a problem with the piston in the prop valve. It closed off the rear lines because of the difference in line pressure. I finally called CPP and they told me to take the rear line off the valve and push a small screwdriver in to center the valve. I did that and heard it pop back into place. I checked the switch with test light and the rest was history. I did manage to smash my face into the visor on the first brake test. I never thought it would stop that good.....
