Right now as i speak there is a 1969 Chevelle Malibu that is Hugger Orange with the "L" which i have seen on another post saying that this means 300 Deluxe SS 396 option well just proved your theory wrong sorry guys this is a Malibu, the "L" means something else here is the auction number:300102610385 or the link if you want to get there quick: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevrolet-Chevelle-1969-Hugger-Orange-4-speed-SS-project-or-parts-car-NR_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6164QQihZ020QQitemZ3 00102610385QQrdZ1

Unless i could be wrong because in 1969 you could order the SS 396 on everything the 300 Deluxe, Malibu and SS of course the "L" just might mean the SS option, the car is originally an Manaco Orange Car (code 72) on the body tag but only could be ordered with the SS so the "L" is looking up to be 99.9% SS option

How does this prove the theory wrong? The whole theory is that SS cars from KS and Baltimore have the "L"....
Am I missing something?

The Manaco Orange paint could only be ordered with the SS and this car is a 136 malibu how can it be a malibu with manaco orange (code 72) if its a malibu the "L" might make it a Malibu special order SS

In '69 the SS396 package could be ordered on a 134 or 136 model. Technically, all '69 SS Chevelles were 300 Deluxe or Malibu with the SS package added. There was no separate SS396 model designation as there was in '68. bc69ss has it right. Sure looks like an SS car to me.

Maybe it's just me but there seem to be alot of things that don't fit on that body, some possible to explain i'm sure some i'm not too sure about unless seeing it first hand. 1. The master cylinder has obviously been changed. 2. Don't really see anything in the pics that can confirm the four speed comment, no z-bar mount on frame, no pedals, the shifter hole is not factory by any means-console or non console. The most glaring item is that the trim tag is really black against a seemingly sand blasted and rusting cowl, may have been removed and replaced?, I may be wrong and don't mean to be on an attack but those are things that would have to be checked out prior to any purchase I might consider, SS paint code or not. The numbers seem to jive in my list for placement. The L speculation continues.....

http://images.absolutepunk.net/images/smilies/Animals/horse.gif Does that elaborate it enough for you? Do some more research about what constitutes an SS in 1969 (here's a hint look particularly at the VIN) and come back and realize all the mistakes in your initial post my friend.

SS cars also had the 136 VIN in 69
