Anyone have any expieriences with companies that take a sample of oil out of your motor and analyize it?
I have a BBC that I bought used and appears to be in good shape. I just recently got it in the car, but dissasembled everything to do it including hood, fenders, ect. Before I fire it up, I'd like to have the oil checked. Last time I remember seeing this done the cost was $25 to $30 and I think it would be a worthwhile investment before I button everything up.
Any companies that do this, pricing or information is greatly appreciated!!

I have had it done on large diesel's by the navy. They check for metal content, PH, fuel dilution etc. It was called Spectranalysis back then, if you do a search with that, you may get a hit. Good Luck.

I have used this company before....sometimes they get busy so it might be worth a phone call to check on lead times....

Thanks for the info guys...........I'm gonna do it as it's only $20.00. I'd rather error on the safe side and see if there is something wrong up front.

I've had Caterpillar analyze oil, the lab is not too far from me. My source of sample containers dried up, so now I have it done by Detroit Diesel.
I suspect any major diesel engine manufacturer has a sample kit that you can buy.
Yeah, the diesel sample kits can check oil from gas engines. Also trannys, PS fluid, whatever you want checked.
I'm paying about $13 plus postage for my Detroit Diesel kits.

The several times that I used Blackstone I always paid the extra for the TBN.... They reciently changed how they measure it tho....But thats no big deal.
Was curious if the other labs offered that service as I have never dealt with the others listed above .
Thanks..
