I own a 1970 chevelle that is not in that bad of shape save the typical rusted floor pans etc. However, there is a section of the frame behind the left wheel well that has a split/crack in it. I am not wanting to do a frame off on this car or replace the frame but want to repair it for safety. What do you recommend in way of a repair. I have read about "frame caps" on line and am thinking of going this route. Or, if there is a better method I'm open to suggestions. Any and all info is much appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Hi Dave and welcome!
I assume you are referring to the area of the frame behind the left front wheel...if so, this is a typical area for a stress crack to develop and propagate.
One of my previous Chevelles, a 1972, developed a crack in this very spot. The repair can be done in a number of ways ranging from just welding the crack and grinding it smooth to cutting out the area and welding a plate of mild steel of the same thickness back in place. I would go the second route since this would remove the factory hole in the frame and the entire crack that usually causes the crack to start from. On my 72, we cut out the area about 4” square and replaced it with a equal size plate and welded into place. After welding we ground down the weld bead and painted the area with a semi gloss black. Never had a problem with it again.
