Ran across this 66 El Camino SS

Aside from the fact there is no such thing as a 66 El Camino SS it's also advertised as numbers matching. The 396/360 does have the 'correct' partial VIN stamped, only problem is the VIN plate on the Elky is a 6-cyl VIN.

That has to be the WORST restamp I have ever seen. they didnt even get the numbers straight
even with the obvios BS it is a nice looking camino :)

He would do better to drop the BS and let the car stand on its own merit.

Sad thing is the seller may have been duped. They wanted to know why the numbers matched the last 6 of the VIN. After explaining the VIN is for a 6-cyl El Camino the engine stamping has to be a fake. Since the block would probably have had the partial VIN of the donor car, now someone may be faced with tampering with a VIN on a motor vehicle part. If nothing else, a buyer may find out it's a phony and come back on them for selling it as a matching numbers car.

I sent him an email pointing out the error of his ways and he pulled the auction.

I explained why the numbers had to be false as well as pointed out some web pages by Dept of Justice concerning VIN tampering. Hopefully multiple input sources convinced them of the problem.

This is what I got in return for my FYI:

"Well guess that's what I get for trying to help a friend out! I AM IN NO WAY TRYING TO DEFRAUD ANYONE!!!"

A little bit upset.
