Hey all,

What would be an appropriate amount to charge for an engine in a showcar if all the goodies except the water pump were thrown in?

The engine is a 402 Big Block, runs great (mild), looks great (plenty of shiny stuff), aluminum intake, custom carb (red/silver), chrome valve covers, etc. Has some leaks, but nothing critical.

I'm thinking of advertising at the car shows I attend this summer - that way anyone interested can see it, hear it run, etc. before I pull it out of the car.

Given that people can hear it/see it in operation before they decide, I'm thinking I might be able to get a bit more for it than if I had it already out.

Any thoughts on the subject are appreciated.

Definately a better idea to sell it while it's in the car to be able to hear!

How many miles on it?

Any documentation regarding mileage and the parts/work that has been done on it?

I think there's about 15k miles on the motor (100% street), and yes, I do have some documentation - but not all the specifics on what pistons, etc.

I'd try $1300-$1600 for a nice running 402 complete that needs nothing but a water pump. Especially one people can see AND HEAR.

My 402 rebuild cost $3500+, so I'd think that would be a good deal for someone who really wanted one. I know there are lots of new/crate options out there. But I'd think you should find some interested parties, for that type of vintage engine, in that range.

The casting #s and year will have a factor on the value. Also, are the codes still visible on the front pad?

I AM - I just need to know how badly I can gouge you, he he he

FYI, it doesn't NEED to be rebuilt - but if I kept it I would have put a much stronger cam in it, current cam is pretty close to stock.

If the codes matched my car, I would keep it - but it's a factory warranty replacement, with enlarged valves in the heads. CE engine.

Oh, I see. In that case you should pay me to take it.:D
