: Newbie here how much should I offer
jeostang Apr 26th, 07, 10:55 AM I've always liked 70 Chevelles, but have always been scared to get one and start working on it. I've mostly stuck to late model mustangs. However I'm getting tired of that so I'm thinking about getting a Chevelle. My God-Father has one that he purchased back in 1970. I believe the last time it was on the road was in the early 80s. Since then it has sat in his garage in Maryland, and then to towed it to Georgia and I'm pretty sure its in a garage down there, and I have not seen it since. I've asked him about it a few times and now I want to make him an offer on it because i don't think he is going to do anything with it. Since I'm just learing about this model car I don't know much and don't have any pics, but here is what I know.
The car is a SS, burgandy with black strips, manual, it probably has rust on it becasue from 1970 to 1984 he lived in a townhouse and the car was not garaged and driven on salty roads. The last time I rode in the car was in 83 and I remember the seats had some tears. The last time I saw the car was when my dad and I helped him push the car on a trailer to take to Georgia. Sorry I don't know much more or have any pics. But I really want to buy it from him and I have no ideal what to offer. I don't want to insult him with a low offer. Can you guys help me come up with a good offer?

What car?
What options?
What condition?
jeostang Apr 26th, 07, 11:40 AM I know its a 1970 Chevelle SS
4 Speed
I was too young to remember the options
The car was not running, interior needed help, I'm sure there was rust, but not much, and it needs a serious paint job.
jeostang Apr 26th, 07, 2:23 PM I know it not much info, but do you guys have a ball park range?
Mr69 Apr 26th, 07, 6:48 PM I know it not much info, but do you guys have a ball park range?
Yes, between $50.00 and $50,000.00
First you need to find out if he even still has the car.
Then you need to give us pictures and a complete description of it's condition.
Your question is like asking, how long is a piece of string?
oldtimebaseballfan Apr 26th, 07, 8:58 PM Hello and welcome James. Sometimes the best thing you can do, is ask him if he still has it and would he sell it. Trying to get a ball park on something without more info or pics is very difficult with this type of car. The market is all over the place.
I've seen real SS cars that are licensed and driven, for $12,000., but they needed work. I've also seen real SS cars that are not licensed and not driveable, but they were $20,000.
It depends on options, color combination, condition, how original is it, documentation.
I also live in Maryland and would be glad to help if I can.

Thanks I'll be in touch.
You guy are right. I need to see if he will sell it. I will ask him this weekend and go from there. I really just didn't want to insult him since don't know how muct to begin with. If he is willing to sell it I'll get as much info as I can and bring it back here. I know he still has it.
bc69ss Apr 26th, 07, 10:35 PM Do you remember what engine it had in it?
jeostang Apr 27th, 07, 10:56 AM I'll be getting all that info on sat. I'm excited, my dad says that he would probably be willing to sell it to me, and my wife likes the chevelle so much that she will let me spend up to 30k.
david seago Apr 27th, 07, 12:39 PM James, i think it would be safe to say you'll get the car with a bank roll like that. Be fair but don't blow it all cause it takes alot of pennies to get them right.
