: Which are the correct 65 Radio inner/fader knobs?

I just bought a correct Delco AM Radio for my 65 Chevelle Wagon. It came with no knobs. I have the correct 65 outer knobs. But I also have two different types of inner, fader or dummy knobs. I've seen these radios with different types of these inner knobs and don't know which are correct. My radio is an AM Manual tune Model #986201. Even in the Radio Tech area the 65 radio shows 67 inner knobs. Is it because they get lost and people replace them with incorrect ones? Who can tell me for sure which inner knobs it should have? I am only confused about the inner knobs, not the outer.

See pic here of a 65 Maual Radio with 67 inner knobs:

My guess is it should have these (below) because they come with the correct 65 outer knobs.

But these are the 67 inner knobs I've seen in many pictures (below), only mixed with the 65 outer knobs.

Nobody has original Delco radios? If anyone does, please help.:hurray: Maybe I'd have better luck in the restoration section?

When I designed, researched and created Team Chevelle's Radio Tech, I went for 100% accuracy.

The knobs depicted in the 1965 radio pictures are CORRECT. Look closely, the 1965 inner knobs are smooth, there are no ribs. The '67 and '68 style are wider looking too. There are (3) main "spokes" around the circumference on 1965 inner knobs like the '67-68 units, but there are no smaller ribs that take up the space between them.

The small knobs in RK502 are correct for 1966 units. Both pictures in this post are not correct for your 65's radio's INNER KNOBS.

Oh, I see now. They're all different knobs then. Ok, I also have another set of fader/dummy knobs which I guess must be the correct ones then. I've bought several sets of knobs over the past few years for when I need them, and the time is now. These knobs have the three spokes, but are smooth all over with no ribs at all. I'll post a pic here tonight and maybe you can tell me if it's correct. Thank you very much.:)

Why don't you just go here and take a look and see what they look like.

Oh yes, I've seen the picture many times. I even posted that link up above. But I just thought those were 67 inner knobs like the ones in the pic labeled RK-503. It's kinda hard to see the difference, but I can now.

Below are the other knobs I have. What I read above leads me to think that these are the corrects ones, are they? I hope they are cause from looking at all the knobs, these look best on my radio. Also I wouldn't have to buy any others!:D

Non-ribbed! Thank you Coppertop.

Well, those pictures are kinda fuzzy, but it doesn't look like you've got the right ones.

I've got a '65 fader knob at home--the problem is--I'm not sure where it's at. If I find it I will take a picture.

Perhaps in the meantime, another fellow '65 enthusiast would be kind enough to take some good close-up pictures of the inner knobs?!

I know sorry, they're crappy phone pics because my husband hogs up the digital camera for work!

(He installs granite countertops and islands, fancy outdoor BBQ areas, and just has to get pics of everything for his collection. Some of it is really nice but that's for a different forum!).

So these are not it?:( Oh no!

Some people probably can't understand why it even matters. But the dash is right in front of me when I drive. It just has to be perfect (or at least correct) or it just bugs me.

I recently removed the dash from my '65 Malibu SS. It has the AM only pushbutton radio. (ID #'s 986202 02PLC-1079)Here are the radio knobs after I removed them and polished them. (they are going back on soon)
Note: There was no evidence at all that the radio had EVER been removed or modified. Everything was untouched in the dash. Matches the posts above. Hope this helps. Tom

Those are beautiful knobs. I see them perfect in the photo now, thank you. They are very similar to mine but not the same knobs. Where yours have an area with a sunken ring on top, mine have a raised circle area that is smooth and shiny. Very similar but not the same. If yours are correct for the AM pushbutton type radio #986202, then does anyone know if they would be correct for the manual AM radio #986201? I know I ask too many questions!:p I guess I'll start hunting for these.

This is the kind of stuff I mean.... Here is an NOS Delco radio #986202 with the little ribbed inner 66 knobs. You can see them clearly when you click the second pic. If #986202 radio was exclusively made for 65's, I don't understand why it has those knobs if it's an NOS.

Now, below is a USED 65 Delco radio, same model #986202. This one appears to have the correct knobs.

This is why it's so hard to get the correct info. But as long as I'm here I know you guys always point me in the right direction. Thanks. ;)

Highlandlake posted a pic of the correct knobs!!!

Always go by Radio Tech, NEVER use eBay as a guide--it's full of cheats and liars. Not all auctions are dishonest, but let's just say that's why I created Radio Tech--before my website there was a lot of 1983 Impala radios selling for $$$ because the sellers were claiming them to be original '70 SS radios!

The manual tune and pushbutton radios would have gotten the same knob treatment. The small inner knobs are those for 1966 models...PERIOD.

Hi Gracie,
Glad I could help.
You don't ask too many questions....and someday I'll ask one and you'll have the answer for! You seem to be very thorough and are probably keeping good notes on the work you're doing.

Coppertop- thanks. So it was worth breaking the 'NO car parts on the good furniture' household rule to take the pics? :)

Perfect, thank you so much to everyone that posted above. I'm glad I can always get the truth here, unlike Ebay! This is the only site I ever found with this much information about Chevelles & their radios, keep up the great work.
