I was talking with our fleet mechanic today and learned that he has a 1969 SS Numbers matching elcamino that will be up for sale in the near future. He had it there in the shop so I got to see it first hand. It's all original with a repaint, hugger orange, code 72 on the cowl tag, 4 speed, vinyl black top,AC, power brakes, power steering,Bench seat, black interior,he's currently rebuilding the motor, engine numbers are all correct I checked. What kind of price will this thing bring? it appears to be rust free and straight

Does the hugger orange with the paint code 72 on the cowl tag ad more value to in this case a 69 SS original elcamino ? the seller feels it does and believes the car is quite rare. If it were a Chevelle I know the answer but I'm sure about elcaminos. thks

I don't think it makes it any more rare- it just is an SS only color, which proves that it was a true SS car without needing a build sheet, etc to back up the claim. Not worth any more than any other SS Elky of the same condition and options.

I posted about a 69 code 72, El Camino on ebay about a month ago. Looked like a nice car. It sold for 15k.

Yes, I'd say a code 72 orange El Camino is quite rare.
You could probably take the extrapolated figure for 69 SS El Camino production and then figure about 1-2% of those may have been orange.

Personally, I've never seen one. Gotta be a rare animal.

Well, we all know about those Sprints. They're only worth about half as much, right :D

Actually, i have seen one- I missed buying it by 2 weeks (i bought another car before i got a chance to see it)... It was a few years back before i knew the significance of Yellow or Orange 69's. I thought it was ugly and checked the body tag and sure enough- coded original for orange.

Who would have known that 10 years later, i'd have an Orange 68?
