After my new 505 BBC had my 200r4 for lunch the other day, I decided to go ahead and replace it with a beefed up TH400. It seems from my searches and reading on this site that Coan is the one of the best converters for our high powered street strip cars, so I ordered one today. Ouch, They are not cheep. I hope they are good as everyone says they are. Should have the car ready to test-n-tune in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to see what it does at the track.

I haven't had the chance to 'flog' my new converter at the track but prelimary results show it slipping at around 6-7% vs the for-sure 9.5% slip of the previous converter. Once I get my transmission issues worked out and readjust my shift rpms I will plot out the slip data. Its a "frank lupo" dynamic converter (I only put "frank lupo" because there appears to be at least two dynamic converter/transmission companies). The person who put it together @ dynamic said he gets them to slip under 6% most of the time, and that 6-7% (if that is what it turns out to be) would be on the higher side of the slip in his 9.5" units. It supposed to be a 3800 stall +-200 but since the trans slips every time I get on the gas in a "direct, brutal" fashion I can't tell yet.
I can't give a final vote on the converter since I haven't had a correct enough run or any dyno time to get an accurate slip %. ATI seems to have a big following on the board.

My 350 is mated to an 11" Coan TC and it worked great - sorry, not very familiar with trans. terminology or how to really rate them except that it worked just fine with the 350 I replaced with a 2004R - the 2004R slips A LOT MORE than the 350, but then again, it's only a stock '87 Monte Carlo SS rebuild.
This TC came with the car when I bought it but I have the receipt for it: $246 plus $93 shipping smile.gif

I got one a couple months ago as part of my cam/converter swap before I started work. Sidetracked for a few days so i couldn't get to the car and a month and a half of working and its still on the shelf collecting dust. :( One of these days...
BUT, from what I hear, ATI and Coan are the way to go. ATI is a bit more expensive than Coan, I dunno if the "you get what you pay for" still applies with those two companies.

Coan here and I love it! My converter is the oldest component in my combo (6 yrs). Everything else is fresh this winter, but I can't find a reason to mess with it.

I run a Coan 11" and it works great with my combo. Very nice people to deal with.

My friend has had a 11" coan in his blown BBc with nitrous for 5 yrs and not a single problem with it.
I put a Midwest converter in my car and it works great too.
