: Mallard duck dilemma
rubadub Apr 25th, 07, 4:32 PM Next door neighbor has a mallard nesting in her bush in the front of there house. We googled the inf on them, and when they hatch she will take them to the nearest water.
Lake Michigan is about two blocks from here with a four lane highway to cross, and a river about 3/4 of a mile. Were in a residential area, any suggestions. Shes been setting about three days now, so I have about three weeks before she makes her move.

PaPa Johns 77 Apr 25th, 07, 5:54 PM Get hold of the Dept. of Conservation. They can help you out on this. I have seen them shut down a major highway and herd them across before!
1BLACKHARLEY Apr 25th, 07, 6:01 PM crows and hawks will eat all but one or two, good or bad luck will take over from there.
Let nature run it's course. If the mallard is dumb enough to nest there, then so will the surviving ducklings when they are old enough to breed. Kind of like the Darwin award for ducks. Sorry if that sounds harsh, it's just nature though. Neighborhood cats will go after them as well.
Andy69 Apr 25th, 07, 6:14 PM they're quite good with a little garlic butter. mmmmm!
rubadub Apr 25th, 07, 6:20 PM Thats it, I'm coming down there.:boxing:

Byfield Apr 25th, 07, 6:22 PM Want some more? There's about 2 dozen of them nesting around the Capitol

Now Andy, I was trying to spare him the truth about them.:D

So you're saying getting eaten by a crow or hawk is not bad luck? ;)

My buddy had a duck for a pet, and the cats and dobermans were afraid of the duck. A duck is pretty tough, and a mama duck is tougher. My money is on the duck.
PaPa Johns 77 Apr 26th, 07, 12:37 PM Saw a fisherman get attacked by one yesterday don by the river! It was funny as heck watching a grown man run from a duck!:D

She came home one night and told me a guest had left a dead duck under a pillow.
I asked if it was smilling?
