: 68 malibu with no motor whats it worth
Daryl yost Apr 25th, 07, 12:24 PM I found a 68 malibu car that has been in a field for 20 years. has no motor or trans. has 307 badges. doors and body in ok shape bumpers and balance bent. comes with rodents and poop. what is it worth. I have no pics at this time just went and saw it today. I have 69ss. I thought 68 was a so so year.
Dean Apr 25th, 07, 12:30 PM Depends on how rusty it is but it's probably not worth much.
Daryl yost Apr 25th, 07, 2:30 PM only has some surface rust. This is a southern colorado car
Merlin Apr 25th, 07, 5:25 PM It's may not worth much as it sits. Depending on the condition and existence of certain specific parts, however, it may finance other projects if you are willing to part it out. For example, tinted glass, floor shift column, tilt, instumentation, console, buckets, belts, etc., are worth a pretty penny. Easy money too, if you get the car for a song.

Dean Apr 25th, 07, 5:58 PM Good solid bodies with NO rust are impossible to find around here so that would be worth quit a bit if it really has no rust.
Total up the worth of any sought after parts that are good enough for resale that it has, if any.
Brettd85 Apr 25th, 07, 6:25 PM Dont part it out. If it has minor rust, its worth restoring.

That's for sure.
Sorry, I didn't mean to part it out, I only meant as a way to help figure out it's worth.

I agree Brett, I was wondering why all the opinion towards parting it out?

"all the opinion" = one post that I see :D
68KMENO Apr 26th, 07, 4:46 PM its hitting 40 years old ........ its bound to have some rust !!
they didn't undercoat or prep the metal very well back in the day .....
of course these cars never were supposed to last anywhere near this long !!
I say if its in decent shape SAVE IT .... we're loosing more of them then are being found an fixed
My 2 cents
Merlin Apr 27th, 07, 9:54 AM Actually, no one so far is advocating the parting out of this car... unless the owner is willing. I for one, would be a fool to part out a sound, rust-free, 68 Chevelle body. But if someone were to part out a 68... I think we are all aware of the potential value of certain hard to come by pieces and options.

Keith Tedford Apr 27th, 07, 10:20 AM After doing our el Camino, I can see where you can get a lot more into a car than it is worth, even when doing a lot or work yourself, having a barn full of spare parts and a solid vehicle to start with. If there is much rust, things get even worse. I would never spend much again on a restorable car unless it was a real SS car to start with. There is no more work to doing and SS car than a base model but the finished product is worth a lot more. If the car has been sitting in the grass for 20 years, you had better give the underside a good look at. It could very well be beyond saving. I've parted out a couple of cars that were way beyond saving. All the bits and pieces are a gold mine when doing a good car. I dug into the collection many times when doing the el Camino. Either way, I'd pick the car up, if the price is right.
Musclecar Apr 27th, 07, 10:59 PM All these replies and no one has even answered the mans question. I think it could be worth anywhere from $500-2000. Depends on how complete it is besides missing drivetrain, how clean the interior is, rust as mentioned is a big factor. C'mon guys what is it worth?

As previously stated, it's value depends in large part, on the existence and condition of certain options. But in an attemp to "answer the man's question"... As described and after having spent 51% of it's life sitting in a field with no engine, surface rust, OK doors and body, bent everything else, and rodents and poop... and assuming it must not have an interior, glass, or wheels... I would say anywhere between nothing and $200. If it has disk brakes, tilt, console, buckets, 12-bolt, posi, instrumentation, AM-FM, tint, AC, power accessories, or any combination thereof, it's value could be commensurately higher.

It would be no more than a guess without knowing more.
glennslanaker May 1st, 07, 11:35 AM i bought a '68 2 door hardtop, 6 cyl, auto, missing a fair amount of trim, and some misc for $600 and sold it for $1000 a few days later. this car had rust free floors and trunk, but needed quarters and fender patches. i could have probably got more, but i didn't want to deal with a bunch of tire kickers. i didn't even advertise it.
