Anyone see a problem running a 3000 stall converter with 2.73 rear on the street? The car is not a daily driver only a weekend burst to the local grocery store, ice cream store, car show, etc. with my 13 yr old son. The engine is a 355 sb with vortec heads and a Comp Cams Mag 280H with 230 dur which needs a higher than stock stall. The engine and converter came from a 78 Malibu I had then sold so this was the combo I had to use for now. I will be changing to 3.73 gears within a couple of months. Will this burn up the trans using this stall at low speeds? It doesn't seem to be slipping or if it is I can't tell.

I run a converter with at least that much stall speed, no problems at all. It acts very good on the street, and no heating up problems. I do run a cooler up front near the radiator however. It depends a lot on the make of converter, the cheaper ones will not work as well.

yeah...just be sure to run a tranny cooler and you will be fine. I got a 3200 in my car and its nothin but a street car and it works fine on the street

Thanks for the replies. It is a TCI #241000 converter which I think is the Street Fighter 3000 stall.

run it on the street, run it at the track, run it like you stole it, but definetly run a good cooler
