Hello,

Glad I found this site.

I'm a Dodge/Plymouth guy who doesn't know much about Chevrolet decoding or parts values.

I was able to get numbers off the following engines, and with some help on a Chevy racing board, know this much so far:

This engine is actually still in a 67 Bel-Air 4-door, and looks like a "rat" motor........LOL, but is a small block,

http://img460.imageshack.us/img460/386/1967chevyimpalapasssidefj2.jpg

The numbers stamped in front of the passenger head are:

18J100861 V08I5DR (or V0815DR?).

A guy said the DR stands for a 68 307 with Powerglide. What do the rest of the numbers mean? Would it have originally came from a 68 Chevelle, Camaro, Nova, or?? Is it worth the time to pull it and the trans? In the Mopar world I'm from, you can't hardly give a 318 away, but a 340 or 360 are sought after.

Couldn't access the cast-in numbers at the back of the block behind the driver's side head.

Next engine is thought to have been pulled from a 70 or 71 Chevelle station wagon that had 400 emblems on each fender:

13J16903 T1117CSK (or I1117CSK) .

Numbers cast rear of the driver's side head: 3951511.

A guy replied, and I was able to verify on a site called www.mortec.com (http://www.mortec.com) this engine's cast in numbers decode as a 70-73 400 with 4 bolt mains. Can a guy tell what year the engine is from the stamped numbers? Or the model of car it came from? I'm attaching some pics, what tranny is attached to it? And, again, what is it worth?

Numbers on the big block chevy with auto trans:

7R166263 T0428IV (or T0428TV?).

Could not access cast-in numbers behind driver's side head, as engine was upside down.

A guy replied IV stands for '65-'68 396. It's history is unkown, as it was saved from the crusher, found in a pile of other engines. What exact year would this engine be? Any idea on model of car it would have come from? What tranny is attached to it? A crime against humanity was commited against this one, as at one time it was under a tarp, then the tarp rotted off, letting it get rained on for years- may be ruined. Worth much?

Link to pic's of 400 and 396:

Will gather up some factory Big Block intakes, take some pic's, jot down some numbers, and post them later in this thread.

Thanks ahead of time for all your help.

(Teaser: Found some pics of the 64 SS Chevelle convertible in the shed, I forgot I had. Will get to them in another thread eventually.)

(P.S. Thanks to everyone who has replied in my 69 Nova value thread.)

The 307 isn't worth much. I would leave it. The 400 is a 1973 engine and is probably worth $200 to $400. The 396 is a 325 hp 1968 big car engine. The average rebuildable 396 usually sells for $300 to $500. The transmission attached to is should be a 400. Unless the intakes are aluminum, I wouldn't bother with them.
