I'm looking to buy some Firestone Wide Oval's for my 69'. I have heard that Coker tire now owns the rights to these tires. Is there anyone that they wholesale to that sells the tires for any less?
Or is there any national chain I could pick them up for the same price at and save on shipping? Coker has them at $144 apiece but, the shipping I think is about $23 a tire...

Brent, it sounds like you are going for the original tire look for your 69 SS. If so, keep in mind that the current reproduction Firestone Wide Oval white lettered tire is not correct for 69 Chevelles, it is correct for 1970 and newer.

For the 69 SS there were three different white lettered tires used:

- Uniroyal Tiger Paw F70-14 (not being reproduced).
- Firestone Wide Oval F70-14 (not being reproduced).
- Goodyear Wide Tread F70-14 (available today).

The "Goodyear Wide Tread" is available at Kelsey Tire (http://www.kelseytire.com) and other places.

I've attached pictures of the 69 Firestone Wide Oval that was used in 1969 and a picture of the current Goodyear Wide Tread.

Hope this helps.

Don,
I didn't realize that... I thought the firestone was the Original equipment. So, the 69's actually came with Good years?

As mentioned, the 69 SS came with one of the above three white lettered tires. Also as noted, the current Firestone Wide Oval is not the same as the 69 SS Firestone Wide Oval. The only correct reproduced white lettered tire for 69 is the Goodyear Wide Tread.
