All,

I need help.....My last post I spoke about missing HP (engine forum). I but my 66 396 on the Dyno and was not happy with the results.

Dyno Results:
HP- 219
Tq- 340

My current heads are Oval Ports with closed chamber, I believe 101cc(3964290) Not sure what type of pistons or crank. Cam is a Comp Cam (11-242-3) Duration at 0.006 tappet lift 268/280. I guess if was to rebuild this 396 are the heads and the cam are good starting points? Are should I scrap the 396 and go with a 454. Oh yeah, its a 4 speed car with 3.73s in the rear. Thoughts from you engine experts.

The heads alone are not a problem, they should make pretty good power, depending on the rest of the combo. If you're not set on keeping the same engine, more cubes would always be nice! The cam doesnt sound too big, I didnt look up the number, but it should work well. Even if you go to a 454, you can still use the heads with a small dome piston to get 9.8 c/r or so...or go with a bigger dome and open chamber heads. The heads you have will flow well with some mild port work and larger valves.
