How are the street manners and power? Thinking of a Comp 294s in a 460 (454+.030) and 10:1. Car is not bought yet, just builing a motor for street/strip later. Car can be built anyway, but will probabaly be 3.73 to 4/11 gears, 28" tall tires and 3400-2600 lbs, TH350 and 3000 stall.

Any feedback would be great! smile.gif

I ran that cam for about 2 years in my 468 big block. It's really a nice moderate cam. I didn't think it was too radical and kind of wished I had gone with the 306S. My 454 was about 10:1 compression with closed chambered "206" heads that were fully ported, gasket matched, bowls blended, 2.19/1.88 valves. I also ran a strip dominator intake an a Holley 850 double pumper. My car weighed 3300lbs without me in it and I ran a Super T10 4 speed with 4.11 gears.

The car went a best of 12.1 @ 118MPH in 90 degree heat and only cutting 1.8 60' times. The cam idled very well and I never had problems with my power brakes or my vacuum operated headlights. The cam pulled to around 6200-6500RPMs but I did run it to 7000 the one night drag racing. Comp Cams recommends lashing the valves at .022" but I used to lash mine to .018" and noticed it pulled a little better on the top end.

All in all a nice streetable cam.

Tracy,

Are you shipping the heads back and forth to Mike? I was just wondering what the shipping is going to cost you.

My son is running the Comp 294s cam in his 65. 454 +.30 with closed chamber 69 427 heads. TH350 stage 3 with 355 gears and power trax. Cars best run has been 12.30 1/4 mile @ 112 MPH with a 1.87 60 foot time. Running 26 inch M/T ET Streets 10.5 wide. 3200 stall. Runs okay on the street. Car was untuned on that run right off trailer and we are still having trouble hooking up well.

I just put a 294S in a 454 30 over stroked to 489. Assembled with an Eagle stroker kit with 10.3 pistons. I also have Edelbrock aluminum rect ports (ported & opened a bit), Crane gold rollers, X-cellerator manifold (port matched) and topped with 950HP (billet base & metering blocks).
I'm pushing it with 4:10 and a 4 speed. Haven't fired it up yet probably a month out. Decided to detail the engine compartment. I'll keep you posted on success. Should move...... graemlins/thumbsup.gif
