Hello all,

Glad I found the site.

Many posts and pic's forthcoming in this thread.

My background is in Dodge/Plymouths, so I'm fairly clueless on Chevrolet car and part values. Saw WIW posts on Buicks, Fords, and Camaros, so thought Nova and Chevrolet Engine stuff would be okay in this forum.

After 20+ years of setting, dragged the 69 Nova I drove to high school out of the barn. It is a basic 6 cyl / Powerglide car, with no A/C, P/S, or P/B. Car would be complete, but thieves stole the radiator, head, intake, carb off the engine. A vandal broke out the back glass (shed was open on one end). Interior is factory complete, but well worn, split bench seat with headrests. Shows 113,000 on the odometer, parked because engine would no longer keep time. Renters at the property it was stored at moved the car at one time, shoving it with a 4 wheel drive pick up with a cattle guard, ruining the rear bumper, trunk lid, and some sheet metal.

What's It Worth?

Big and small block engine thread too come.

(One day we'll share about the 64 Chevelle 'Vert in another barn, but I'll get pic's of it first for another thread.)

Here is a view from the front. The 3 rears I thought were 9" Fords, but don't know much about them. Thought they were worth stacking on the trailer before the thieves got them. Stock ones worth much?

The 69 Nova was originally a medium or bright blue, then painted yellow, and finally "Mille Miglia" Red when I was a teenager. Told the guy in the early 80's at the paint shop I wanted the brightest red in his book. Recently found out that Red is factory correct for a 71 Corvette.

Here is the part that makes me sick to my stomach, the broken back glass, and then the ruined bumper, sheetmetal. The trunk is tweaked just enough that the key won't open the latch. The taillight miraculously is not broken on the driver's side.

Not sure what I'm going to do next. I was starting to get phone calls from people wanting to buy it or for parts, despite the car being at the end of a gravel road, some 100 or more yards away. Word sure got around fast. Thought it was time to get it out of there before it or more of it came up missing.

Pic from in the shed before the $10 worth of quarters at the car wash:

I dont think its a parts car. It looks very restorable. I would say its worth about $300.

Car looks fairly solid. You may have better luck selling it here http://www.stevesnovasite.com/ or here http://www.novas.net/forums/
If those are 9" rears, They're worth more than the nova.

Wow, You guys are harsh, I've put much worse back together & on the road. How bad is the rust / Bondo? If it's fairly solid around here you are talking about $2,500 (depending on the rust issues)

Thanks for everyone's replies.

I take it value will vary by area of the country? Likely more valuable in the north central, northeast where rust eats most of the bodies.

I do have relatives we travel too 3 times a year near Toledo, OH from Kansas City. My father-in-law lives near there. We went to a local car show there a year ago, and nearly every car was a GM make. He said I was in GM country, with all the GM plants or GM vendors that have been in that part of the U.S.A. for decades.

Thanks for the links to the Nova sites also.

The more I research the 9" Fords on the internet, the more I think that is what they are. I pulled Ford wheel rims off two of them after loading them. Anyone know what they are worth? They still have the factory tags on them, and best I can tell the center chunks have never been out of the housings. The front pinion bearing is the large type on them, larger than the smaller 8" Ford rear. They were left behind in 1971(!!).

The 69 Nova does have some smallish(?) rust spots. It has rust above each rear tire in the "lip", and at the bottom-most rear of each front fender, about the size of 2 silver dollars - rust wasn't there when the car was parked. Time, condensation and gunk that stuck in that spot inside the fenders took their toll. The driver's side floor board was soft under your heel by the gas pedal when the car was parked. Now it's a rust hole. Car didn't have factory carpet, just the rubber matting. Trunk lid rusted out around the Nova emblem, but with the dent in it, it is likely a goner anyway. Paint is 25 years old, and is showing chips in many spots.

Anyone else feel free to post opinions.

What's the story on the red Charger in the first picture?

I can see the Nova being worth at least 1500 around here to start with. Nowdays, rearends are being bought ready to bolt in guaranteed to fit whatever make/model you want. It used to be really common to modify or narrow a rear and make it fit. If you do that today, it costs about as much as a new crate rearend.

Im not so sure those rearends are worth big bucks but certainly worth more then scrap metal. The mail order rears from companys like Currie and Moser have made this market much more user friendly which means originals arent as expensive.

Put it on e-bay youl gett at least 1500 for it.

yes those are definitely 9 inches.measur them and if you have a fairly narrow one it is worth more.they are worth a core at places that narrow them .the nova looks good but how is the underneath?that would determine the value better.

Man you guys sure like to lowball around here. I just sold this '72 442 last week for $900 and it was way worse than that Nova. No motor/trans and the trunk lid was about the only straight rust free part on it.

this is NOT a parts car. $200? $300? no way. even with the problems it's about a $1500-$1800 car IF the floors and truck pan are solid.

Check out ebay.. serveral 69 nova's on there. Seems like 1500 is about as CHEAP as you can get one. Most are going in the 2.5k and up range by auction close. That is no parts car, would probably hit in the 2k range on ebay I'd guess. $300 or $400 is stealing that car, not just getting it cheap.

Widetires22

1500+ for sure.

I had quite a few people interested it. It was 1 of 1200 4 speed cars that year. $900 is very little money for a project. The days of cheap old cars are drawing to a close. You can still get lucky and find bargains occassionally, but a GTO, 442, GS, or SS always adds to the value.
A car is worth what someone will pay for it. I think the heading should read How much would you sell this for if it were yours? None of the guys on here would sell that Nova for $200 or $300 if they had it. I agree with $1500-$1800.

For sure...

You can still find bargains from time to time, but anyone that's not too anxious to sell would be able to get 1500 for that Nova (provided that they don't let it rot into the ground); and this one doesn't sound like it was left in that situation.

Yeah, I kinda went off a little there. There's just too many times when guys ask what something is worth and some chucklehead decides that since he doesn't like Novas the car isn't worth anything. Or they've seen nicer go for very little. There are a lot of factors involved in placing a value on old cars or parts. Like I said, it's worth what someone will pay for it. Sometimes you just have to wait for the right buyer. Or put it on e bay and shamelessly lie about the condition and history. Maybe its the only big block Nova with a factory installed 6 cylinder? ha ha

Well, I spent a zillion hours on paint polishing, cleaning, and detailing. Bought a mismatched set of tires and wheels for it, but at least they matched side to side. Bought a back glass for it, and paid for it's install. All told, spent about $300 on it getting it somewhat presentable.

The result:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=009&sspagename=STRK%3AMESO%3AIT&viewitem=&item=190121050312&rd=1,1

Big improvement over the way I pulled it from the barn with 4 flat tires (click on the little pic's to see the big pic's):

http://img487.imageshack.us/img487/7043/1969chevynovafrontendviqa8.th.jpg (http://img487.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1969chevynovafrontendviqa8.jpg)

After:

http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/4931/passsidefrontfullviewclmn5.th.jpg (http://img529.imageshack.us/my.php?image=passsidefrontfullviewclmn5.jpg)

http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/8826/passrearfullviewcleanedtl2.th.jpg (http://img523.imageshack.us/my.php?image=passrearfullviewcleanedtl2.jpg)

Ebay fee the way I did the auction was $59. A guy from Oklahoma contacted me with a $2000.00 cash offer, said he would be here in 5 hours with cash in hand. I said okay (would have been tickled with anything over $1700). 6 hours or so later it was loaded, and on it's way to Oklahoma.

Thanks for everyone's input. My apologies to anyone I overlooked getting back to, as the responses were close to 30 from various advertising venues.

They say a little elbow grease goes a long ways when selling a car.
