I'm looking at a 383 stroker crate engine and I have a few questions about the hydraulic cam used in it, the specs on the cam are.
050 duration: 234 intake; 244 exhaust
advertised duration: 300 intake; 310 exhaust
cam lift: 325 intake; 340 exhaust
valve lift: 488 intake; 510 exhaust
lobe center: 107 intake; 117 exhaust
The compression ratio is 10:3:1, it has world products sportsman heads and high performance stainless steel valves 2.02 intake; 1.6 exhaust. It is reccomended that you use a 3000 stall converter, do you agree or would a 2500 stall converter work fine? would I need a vacum resivoir for my power disc brakes? will this cam give me a rough idle and still be streetable? and will this motor have a problem running on 93 octane or would I need to add a few gallons of 100 octane? would a TH350 trans work fine or would a TH400 be better? it is also possible to get magnum roller tipped rockers or aluminum roller rockers on this motor which would be better? The motor is rated at approxamitley 420HP @550RPM and 455FT lbs of torque @3900RPM I know that you can get a 383 stroker to make more power than this but I'm not looking for an outrageous motor, I'm just looking for something that will be fun on the street and to go to the dragstrip with ocasionally. My current motor is a 350 with 8:75:1 compression with world products S/R heads with high performance stainless steel valves 1.94 intake; 1.5 exhaust, it's hydraulic cam specs are.
050 duration: 214 intake; 224 exhaust
advertised duration: 280 intake; 290 exhaust
cam lift:295 intake; 310 exhaust
valve lift: 443 intake; 465 exhaust
lobe center: 107 intake; 117 exhaust
It is rated at approxamitley 300HP @5000RPM and 365ft lbs of torque @ 4000RPM. So I'm sure I will feel a noticeable difference in how the 383 compares to my current 350, right? Thanks in advance for any help.
