It really does depend on the artist and even what songs that artist sings on the 8 track. Just plain old 8 tracks can be had for 25 cents or less. Good artist and songs can fetch up to 3-5 dollars if in good shape.

oh yea!!! I love 8 tracks...I still listen to them on a regular basis, some don't sound to bad either, the more valuable ones are the ones w/ quadraphonic sound:thumbsup:

I remember quadrophonic! I remember when I bought my quad 8 track player and then bought the James Gang Rides again in quad. I would sit in the car and listen to the music swirl around like a circle.

Well heck maybe I should run back over there and dig them all out just to see what they are.

It's at an acquaintance's unoccupied house only a few blocks away that they are cleaning out.

we have a nice set up in our band room...we play 8 tracks through the reverb device and the quad sound excellent through the Bose speakers...it would be interesting to find out what you have for tapes

They're probably worth 50 cents.

As you oughta know they are of lousy quality, break easy, how many matchbooks does it take wedged in to make them play right?

Hey....if you didn't pay anything for them you could start them off at 50 cents no reserve and see what they don't bring. :) At least it's no skin off your nose. :noway:

When I go to Carlisle there are usually several people selling 8 tracks. I look for the bands I like and buy a few each time. Price is $1.00 each.

I still have my old 8 track tape player that I bought in about 1970. I have it, a box of 8 track tapes, and an AM radio cartridge. Now we just put all our music on our IPod and play it back through an FM station. All the music that I have ever owned fits nicely in my shirt pocket now. I see boxes full of these tapes once in a while in antique shops. Usually pretty inexpensive.

Let me know what you find. I may want some of them if they are '60s groups.

At one time there was a recorder that you could buy to record onto the 8 track tapes. Our tapes are the Beach Boys, B. J. Thomas, Johnny Rivers, Simon & Garfunkel etc. I'll have to get the player in a car and running again.

Yes, it's true about the 8 track recorder ........ I have one, it's a recorder and player. An old girlfriend gave it to me for my birthday back in 1970, it worked very well, I had it as part of my stereo rack system before I went to the surround sound system back in the mid '90s..... you plug it into your stereo using the RCA jacks, the only problem is finding blank tapes nowadays ............. I don't know if you can record over pre-recorded tapes or not.... I don't remember if I ever tried it.

Yes you can record over pre-recorded 8 track tapes. Used to have an 8 track recorder/player and did it often.

Thanks Junkyard,
I'll have to dig that recorder out and play with it for a while, I just remembered it's a Craig unit.

Love those old albums that fade out in the middle of a song...click...fade back in. Classic.

Depends on if they are Burl Ives or BTO.

Play them on this:
